When I was very young, my father was a student and so my parents were very poor. We used newspaper for tp. Mom would tear it into smaller pieces and crumple it up. The crumpeling softened the paper and it worked quite well. So that is always another alternative. Although would not flush that down the toilet these days. Don't want to have to call out the plumber ...

I just finished making 6 dz oatmeal cookies. I am sick and tired of buying
"cookies" at the supermarket that taste like cardboard and cost and arm and a leg! For 2010 I am finding ways to save money without sacrificing quality.Does anyone have any cookie recipes besides peanut butter cookies ,choc chip,or oatmeal cookies? Please keep the price down, quality and quantity up. I need recipes that provide 5/6 dz .
Thank you all you bakers1:)

I went into our field today and picked some wild greens, mustard and chickweed to supplement the store bought salad greens. I made a big salad using the store bought greens, storebought celery and the rest of the ingredients are homegrown: mustard, chickweed, garlic greens, onion greens, carrot and tomato.

I have a recipe for No-bake Oatmeal cookies. The kind with chocolate and peanut butter. Is this the kind you made? If not I can post the recipe for you. My kids are crazy over these.

I didn't go to Starbucks today, even though it was cold and snowy at work and I REALLY wanted an extra hot grande caramel brulee. It's bad that it's just around the corner from the gallery...

I made homemade bread and stayed home. It always saves money when you don't go anywhere. ;)

I also decided to cut up an old t shirt into little pieces to use instead of tp for #1. They are easy to wash and should save us some $$ on tp. After all, it can't be any worse than washing diapers.
I have used (still have em somewhere) cheapo walmart washcloths, cut in half or into quarters, and used a serger to edge them, they work really well, I got my little girl to use them, saved TONS of paper, and she loved it! :gig They're very soft and gentle on the lady parts. :D
Just keep a bag, or a small lidded trashcan nearby to toss them into and then into the wash. with all the peeing in pants accidents we had when potty training, having a few washcloths with pee on em is no big deal.

Bought bleach on sale last week--120 oz (I think--it's the small (er), not smallest size--for $1.00 each, limit 4. Haven't seen it THAT cheap for about 3 years.

I headed for my local food pantry/discount store. Deal of the day. Organic Vegetable broth in those 1 quart boxes. 10 for a buck. Yup a buck. I had to buy 10. Looks like soup next week.
