CITY-WIDE THRIFT SALES!!! :D

I got a lot of stuff. Best thing worth mentioning is a FREE sleeping bag because the lining was torn. I am stitching in an old flannel sheet and it's going to be super-nice.

My fiance picked up 2 Coleman sleeping bags - like new - for $10 each.

Not only will improve our camping experience, but great for preparing for a winter storm + power out.

I got a WOOL horse-blanket. Perfect colors for our decor if it washes up nice, or great for the car-blanket stash. Also a down comforter for my "she-cave" room. It needs a cover, but I'll wait to find sheets at an auction and make a duvet.

I've been sewing, knitting and mending all day. I'm working on my fiance's fav LLBean shirt he bought for $50 5 or 6 years ago. He looks totally hot in it, so I'm darning up the almost-holes before it gets worse. I fixed a rip in my purse, darned up butt-pocket-holes in my fiance's jeans. And working on knitting a thick neck warmer to match a winter coat I bought at a thrift store.

Oh - our neighbors brough over a jar of salsa and a bale of hay for my rabbits. Super-nice of them! I feel like baking them cookies or something. I always want to make cookies but I would eat them all! :p

Jumping on the bandwagon with you guys. We just had a major unexpected expense at our house. Luckily with some fancy footwork we have the cash to pay for it but I want to build up my cash reserves again as quickly as possible.....so.....thawing a homegrown chicken to make a couple of dinners this week some chicken salad and will make broth with the carcass....I am completely out of chicken broth. A batch of sourdough english muffins rising on the counter, load of laundry hung on the line and DD is organizing my coupons. For the next solid month nothing will be bought without a plan and if possible, nothing will be bought without a coupon. :D Picked up my freezer beef for the year and organized my freezer to make note of what we had and where to find it.

I guess just like most people when we get busy we stop being so frugal Like two weeks ago I would have bought broth, english muffins and used the dryer. But there is no choice now.....tired after a full day of working or not....

Welcome tink!! It sounds like you have put a great plan into action. Good luck with it!!

Today I finally did returns. I had two things sitting around that were go backs. Totaled about 25 bucks. Then I used a gift card I got as a b day gift last year. New yarn. Woo hooo!!! At no cost. Gotta love that.

I have been freezer shopping for dinners this week. So far so good!!

I have a sourdough starter going in the fridge and found a recipe for sourdough english muffins to try. Soooooo good. The family loved them, I made a whole bunch for the freezer. That will save me from having to buy them. They look just like store bought but have such better flavor. The ingredients are super simple and inexpensive.

Made a menu plan for the week. My biggest problem is having something thawed to cook for dinner, that and the fact that we both work full time. I work at home but still find myself stuck on the phone come 5:00. I need quick things to make or something simmering in the crock pot.

We need to not spend one extra penny right now. We are ok thank goodness but I am uncomfortable when we don't have what I feel is enough of an emergency cash fund so we'll scrimp and get that back up, it's worth it in the long run. Besides, I sort of like a challenge. My Dh has been known to say sometimes I can take the frugal challenge too far....:D we'll see.

Tink: may I have your english muffin recipe? DH insists on Thomas' and even on sale they are so expensive! He eats one every day after his cereal. Thanks.

Oh, and I'm great at crock pot made up recipes, if you need ideas.

I went to JCPenney's for a very non-SS necklace I wanted. Discovered it was a HUGE sale day!

I bought a $70 GORGEOUS dress, $24 super-warm mittens (I've ruined all my others with hunting and rabbit-cage-cleaning!), and a $20 necklace, for..... $66.

And I bought 2 men's polos at 75% off. :woot

We went to an auction to get a chest freezer ($65) and hoping to get a meat grinder (not successful). We ARE going to get a deer this hunting season. :D

My fiance is out at 2 auctions today, trying to get a rototiller and wheelbarrow. Curious to see what he brings home!

Thank you very much for the kind offer. The english muffin recipe starts with a sourdough starter. That part I don't have a recipe for because a friend shared it with me. She told me she got her starter from King Arthur Flour for about $6.00 after being unsuccessful at starting her own. I figure even if I had to buy the starter I would have already made up the cost with all that I have been baking from scratch. The english muffins alone will save me $3.00 per week. :D I will post the recipe for you tomorrow.
