Ah, thats funny :)
Mine usually involves tripping over two dogs, shoving the "fixed" cat who is busy begging for "attention" with my foot and trying not to fling hot sticky stuff at the SO while he tries to tell me how many ways I'm doing my jam wrong  or my turkey
Yay they will be here today!!! And CJ was crying this morning because he thought you were butchering them here today ( I don't know why, I've gone over this already  ) but now that he knows you are taking them today he is ok with not thinking about tomorrow :gig :gig apparantly he finally decided he likes the ducks :he So, I've got the go to get ducks when we get to kansas as long as the landlord approves :D

Awwwwww ....:love. CJ is so stinkin' cute isn't he? :D

I was going to offer to bring up a cone and try doing one on site, but I wasn't sure I would be able to get organized...and I most likely wont...LOL. But now I am glad I never mentioned it! :gig

The plan is to leave here around 2:30, grab abi and head to your place. Depending on how distracted we get, I am guessing we should be there 5ish?!?! I'll pm you my cell #

Thanks!!!!

Could you? Could you really? I've got a couple chickens we could do! :D or even a drake and CJ can go someplace else for a while! :D I'd be oh so grateful, and be willing to part with peach jam, raspberry jam and even asian pear jam :D plus the bag of oyster shell :D

LOL. OK, I will bring up a cone :D

Bribing me with home canned goodness is totally cheating!!!

:gig

Now keep in mind I am no expert. I have only butchered 4 drakes so far on my own. The results weren't pretty but the meat was good :D

I never thought about giving my kid a sleeping pill. Gonna have to search for a low dose .... sometimes I dream about something to help him stop pacing and lay down. Hmmm....

Now you guys have my mouth watering for strawberry daquiri jam ... uh, how would one go about doing that? (As I meander over to my liquor stash to see if we have any rum ...)

We are still alive...and many ducks aint :gig Abi, the knife sharpening master, was in charge of throat cutting. She had to get past the "gee, the live things don't wanna get their throats slit and the wiggle around all weird" phase. We worked through that by me holding their bills while they were hanging upside down in the cone as she did the deed.

The first 6 took us forever. Then we took a break and breezed through the next 5. We went the skinning route because we knew time was limited (I still had to drive her back to Denver at the end of the day). 2 breasts and 2 legs went in to each freezer bag, the carcasses went in to a huge soup pot (still simmering), the feet went in the soup pot too. The livers will be used to make a pate, and the hearts will go on a skewer of some sort and be thrown on the grill. The bags of guts are in the freezer awaiting the arrival of the trash guy on Tuesday. The blood was diluted with water and fed to the trees. So even skinning the ducks we still got a lot of use out of each body.

I still think I suck at butchering, but I suck at a much faster pace now :D A few more times and I might actually have a clue or two.

In the true spirit of duck math, I still have 13 ducks. :p I need to get down to 8 or less. More than that and winter duck care becomes a total pain. Since I have 12 girls and 1 boy now, I should not have trouble rehoming a few hens. The drake we kept from Matt's flock got a name yesterday. I did consider "lucky" but that is lame and ordinary. Instead I picked McLoed...Connor McLoed...because when it comes to drakes, in the end, there can be only one :gig

We'll get around to naming girls after we sell off the extras. I am thinking of trying to find some bleeding heart animal lover to take Twister and Domino. I tried to integrate the remaining girls in to one flock and the "old biddies" promptly tried to beat the snot out of Twister because she acts funny. And with going through her final growth spurt, the poor thing is having a hell of a time getting her head straightened out. I started giving her extra vitamins again. Her and Domino are in the small pen by themselves since Domino isn't bothered by her sister's disability. But I don't want them to have to spend all their time in pen. SIIGGHHH.
