It just keeps getting "gooder and gooder"

My schedule at work may change and NOT for the better. The hours would stay the same but the days would change to a setup that would really be hard on me - financially and schedule wise.

FF- thanks for the suggestion, I may look into it.

SD - Today Rio fell asleep while I was outside and the hens were all around him, literally inches from him. I think the instigator was probably Rags (who has a ton of some kind of terrier in him, so it was just natural to go after prey), and Rio joined in the fun. :(
At any rate, I clipped everyone's wings - even Poppy's, much to his humilation and dismay.
Tomorrow I will take down the garden fence I put up - I wont' be letting them into the garden anymore since that was the start of all of this trouble - losing the BO to the hawk in the garden, and Stink was evidently trying to get to the garden and landed on the wrong side of the fence. Hopefully I will get a chance to till and get my peas in the ground.

I talked to the foster coordinator and she asked would I be interested in assuming ownership of Buddy. The foster / horse assistance group would help me with hay and feed until spring. Evidently her boss (the county animal control) is fighting paying feed costs for horses when dogs and cats are euthanized every week. So, of course I said yes. I will be using my leftover bonus (after I buy some kitchen stuff and pay a couple of bills down) to send him to a trainer for just a week or 2. He isn't 2 yet, so I have sometime before the serious saddle work begins.

I really really really don't want to change my schedule. :( I keep trying to remind myself I have a GREAT job, that I REALLY enjoy and it is VERY secure. I just hate to lose that extra pay and the schedule I have had for over 4 years.

Whine over. For now.

Thanks, OFG. I am not sure if I am holding my breath in anticipation or fear  ;)

Things are getting brighter, like they always do. Sweet Pat - the hen everybody beats up on- is quickly becoming a funny little pet. Each night when I get home from work (130am) I put her on the roost with the others. Then, at 630 or so in the morning I get up and go to get her before the gangstas realize she is there. She always stays hidden in the chicken house while they go out.
I feed the big gang, then I call "Pat Pat!" and she comes trotting out and either follows me or leads me to her separate run. I give her a boiled egg, BOSS and pellets everyday since she is in solitary. I think maybe she brags about it because the others stand at her fence and stare.

Work schedule may just be a minor adjustment instead of a major shift change, so a little less stress financially.

Rags, the 'possum and Stink killer, got one of Mr. Old Neighbor's chickens that came over in our yard. Now he just lays out there waiting for another to fly over from Mr ON or my yard. We are going to have boot camp. ;)

I got my seeds from Bakers Creek and will start some tomatoes inside this weekend . Also have started putting up fence as "trellis" and once done with that I'll plant my garden peas. I have red potatoes ready to plant and some Yukon golds in my closet - probably next weekend will be potato day.

Busy afternoon today. Tomorrow promises to be one of those exhausting busy days where you accomplish absolutely nothing... but it is a day of priorities. My older nephew, J15, plays high school baseball and has 2 games tomorrow. I am also supposed to help a friend for 2-3 hours in between J15's games. Sunday the foster coordinator is supposed to come with Buddy's ownership papers (but I'll still send him to you if you change your mind, OFG)

Hey BBuff! Sorry your chicken didn't work out to a meal ....

I had to come in and sit down so I will stop spending money! Geesh!
- feedstore for 2 kinds of horse feed, layer pellets, scratch, seed starter pots
- TSC for a 5" round x 8ft fence post, tie bolt (I guess that's what it is called - a bolt with a D-ring for tying horses / cattle), a length of chain, some clips (chain and clips to try yet another method of keeping Buddy out of the feed stalls and hay storage!)
- vet :thu for Buford's pain and skin meds
- counseling appointment (everyone appreciates me going ;) )
- grocery store for milk (which I wouldn't have to buy if I could get a cow or some goats!)

I've fed the horses and gave them clean water, same for the chickens, tended to Pat and gathered eggs. Mr. ON said he has a brand new, never out of the box incubator and he wants me to try to hatch us some chicks. He assures me he learned "on the farm" how to tell from the egg if it is going to be a rooster or a hen ;) .

I still need to till for my garden peas and at least start on the fence for trellising; fix my seed pots and get my tomatoes in; start the post hole for my post (trainer / farrier said to start tying Buddy out for 10 min at a time, supervised, and build up the time so that he will have a little more patience).

The foster coordinator called and will be bringing the hay next week instead of this Sunday - works out well for me!

It has been a great day ... 74*, blue skies, light breeze. Think I'll take some tylenol and go work on some tilling.

Poor Buford... :( Yesterday when I picked him up from the vet and got him home, I went to get him out of the backseat of my truck and when I opened the door he fell out!!!! He landed on his old arthritic back - from about 3-4 ft! He had a rough night last night so I did too. I kept getting up and helping him adjust on his bed so I was awake listening for him from midnight -4. He cried and cried whenever I moved him. :( Every 4 hours I have given him his pain pills and he is up and about now, still moving pretty slow. Poor darling.

I cut 3 lengths of chain and put them on the barn gates and Buddy's little paddock gate. It is amazingly beautiful weather today so I tilled the plot where I want to plant garden peas (finally), put up the temporary fencing for trellis and planted most of the peas. My knee ran out about the same time my bag of fertilizer did, so it worked out ok.

Spaghetti with the folks for lunch, then a baseball game and a flying trip downtown to the historic district. After the photos (downtown), back to this end of the county for another baseball game. I'll be glad to see bedtime tonight.

We were doing photos downtown, so I kept Buford on his pain pills every 4 hours. He was so good. We walked a total of about 10 blocks, stopping for a few minutes to do pics and let Buf lay in the grass. I dropped the dogs off at home and went to catch the end of my nephew's 2nd baseball game of the day... Buford seems to be doing great now that he has had a nap after his long walk.

I , on the other hand, am wiped out... so good night all!
