Well, the dirty deed is done...I am going to try to upload a few pics of the process. This will take awhile....dial-up, you know.

After much bumbling and fumbling by the teen who MUST use his choice of rope~that broke two times :he ~we finally got the poor beef hanging in the tree, gutted and skinned.

The rodeo involved to get her to the butchering tree was worthy of Funniest Home Videos! I finally wound up tying one of her legs to her neck so she could not run easily and, after that little adjustment, we got her from the pen to the tree.

Wanna hear something sad? The sheep jumped their fence to follow her, didn't get to actually see her dispatched but they hung around close to be near the calf. After all is done and they are back in their pen, they have been acting distressed and sad.

Worst of all, every time Lucy carries a calf leg past their pen, they act very disturbed....I think they can smell their herd mate's scent but can't figure out why the yard dog is carrying her around in her mouth.

Mom suggested leaving one of the legs in the pen for comfort but I don't think that is going to yield positive results....I'm not a sheep, but I would be having little sheeple nightmares tonight with that momento as a bedfellow! :barnie Like making them an offer they can't refuse...... :sick

Mom was right....poor thing has barely two bites on her frame. :p

Yes! :D My son was joking about putting the head on a spike by the feed bin with a sign stating, "Go easy on the hay...or else!" :gig

Thank you for the compliment for the Bat....she wasn't real pretty today for the photo shoot but she sure cleans up good. :D

The sheep are really missing their friend...they've been crying for two days now. :( No silence of the lambs here, I'm afraid. They really got upset when they saw Lucy carrying the leg of their buddy past their pen. :barnie They can see cows that look like her across the road and they keep calling for her to come to them...it's really quite sad.

Note to self: Sheep are very sensitive about herd mates.

I knew I liked sheep for some reason! :love

Say what you will about winter but I really love the winter blues...and the lavenders and stark blacks. I don't ever get tired of viewing a landscape with so many watercolored hues....the mountains are a cadet blue and deep lavendar along the ridgelines and the sky is awash in a whole spectrum of blues and purples.

You just don't find these soft shades during the other seasons. Every season seems to have it's own appeal to me.

Sure wish I could paint with watercolors! When the kids finally fly the coop, I plan to take some lessons.

The weather has sure been nice hasn't it? The landscape is so pretty right now,..and you are right,..there is so many colors you don't see any other time of the year. I know everyone around us has been complaining about the cold and all of the snow, but we have been really enjoying it. This morning I threw on my new insulated overalls (a gift from my Dad),boots, and big coat,..went out and set and watched my ducks and chickens for awhile. Meditated,....the down on the farm way. ;) It was so cold, but so peaceful. I love wintertime!

So sorry to hear about the poor sheep missing their buddy. :(

You'd be surprised what you can do just picking up a canvas and some paints and copying the scene you're looking at.

Morel you are so funny!

I mean perhaps Bee CAN draw and paint ... I don't know about that for sure, but you artistic folk just don't understand. If I was to pick up a canvas and some paints YOU would be the surprised one.

I have seen your work. Amazing. Others of us have to express ourselves in other ways.

Sorry...you might be right...I don't think sometimes. But I am sports dislexic, math dislexic, and everything else dislexic :barnie. I guess it is good that God thought to give us each our own gifts. Mine are mostly useless for everyday life, but they are good for making others happy :)
