Bee I was just hearing on the radio the other day about a group doing work in the Appalachia's helping very poor families. When I remember the name of the group I will let you know, but they were saying that there are many people who die of cold each year because they are very poor and their homes are just make shift shacks that offer very little warmth and protection.....maybe that is a direction to go with your big heart and medical background?
I think this was the group..... http://www.christianapp.org/

I will send you the link to our mesage today as soon as it comes up in a couple weeks. :hugs

Fine ... go to a cool climate! There are many Eastern European countries that need help. Bosnia, Latvia ... the list goes on.

I was doing some reading about Heifer International and some of their project sites. Many of them need nursing, SS guidance and souls saved. ;) Heifer International Projects

Many churches have missions in the same places.

I checked out and bookmarked both sites! Heifer International only had a few job postings and they were way out of my league but I'm going to explore both sites more to see if they need someone like me.

I'm sure if God wants me there, He will surely make a way! Could be He wants me to continue where I am but I get a feeling that I'm being prepared to leave this place....one way or another. :)

Thanks, Dace and Farm! :hugs

My mom's church has a dentist that goes to Ecuador to various villages for 2 weeks at least once a year. There is a place for everybody in mission work. I'm sure you'll find something cool...:D

The only problem with all these missions is you have to pay your own way....and I don't have that kind of money. Nor could I see my church funding a single woman to go on these kinds of missions.

If I could find something that wouldn't cost too much to go, it would be a great thing to do. I'm finding out the only people they actually employ are those with Bachelor Degrees and 5-7 years experience in running a nonprofit org.

That's not me..... :p

Just remember, if God wants you to do something, not only will He show you what He wants you to do, He'll also provide the means.

In our case we will be raising money...not sure how but I know we will raise a good portion of what we need.

In the message that i am going to send you (as soon as I can access it!) you will hear about Scotty, who is unemployed and on disability with a wife and son....there was some doubt about his ability to pull it off, but God provided And he ended up with more than he needed and he was able to help others on the team!

Our Pastors wife tells the story of planning the trip to Haiti last month. The first obstacle was Haiti at Christmas time....who would want to go then? Then add on a cholera outbreak, then add on the civil unrest from the november elections in Haiti, then add on a blizzard back east affecting air travel.....the bottom line is that If it is Gods will, there may be obstacles but it is possible! Who are we to doubt His direction? I also believe that the Devil tries to disrupt good work and plants the seed of doubt, then throws out obstacles for us to trip over hoping to stop/prevent our good work.

We will be having our first planning meeting in Feb....I will share with you whatever I learn about fundraising.

The more I think about it the more I believe that the combination of your Christian heart, medical knowledge and SS skills make you a great candidate for missions work!

You could also search out other churches who are doing stateside missions work, I am sure you will find some people to help and a
program to serve. You could keep your job but do a few misssion
projects a year.

Now Bee ... SHAME on you! You know God has his mysterious ways.

A lady in my church (and if EVER the word lady applied it applies to her) is a retired missionary to Korea. She has been in the field working ALONE since she was about 20. She never married. She has had all of her needs met and a retirement of some sort even. She went through Woman's Missionary Union. If you are ready to commit I am CERTAIN that my Lucy would be able to pull some strings. ;) :D

You guys are great! And you are right, Farm....shame on me! :p I know better than to doubt God's divine wisdom and power. I am leaving myself open to anything God would like me to do and will be awaiting a sign or opportunity in the area of missions.

The job I do is sort of a ministry and I know He wants me there....I've tried to leave a couple of times to no avail. But I have the feeling there is something more I am to be doing....just can't put my finger on it.

The feeling is so strong that I resisted the urge to keep my beloved animals and have been dispersing them....so that can tell you how strong it is. I just felt that God wanted me to put His needs before my own. I've been praying about loneliness in my life and I'm wondering if He will fill it with missions to work with children who need love.

Thank you, Dace, for thinking of sending me the message of the missions and thank you, Farm, for telling me the truth! :D What else are good friends for? ;)

I'll be continuing to pray and gather information about this.

Right now I have a family on my heart and was wondering if you all would kind of keep them in your prayers. I can't tell you much but the dad is dying, youngish family...and someone broke into their home and stole his pain meds and anything else they could take($300 in change they had been saving up). The family are poor, so this was a hard thing. Who does these things???? :somad

I have put out a call of need to several area churches to raise money to return their losses to them and to help defray the cost of his funeral. I'm hoping they respond.

Sometimes the missions are right here at home....
