Answered prayer is a wonderful thing! Bat deserves some good things in her life. :D

Is your sheep Romeo still at your place or did he do the deed and go his own way? The woman at the sheep farm we toured has many Rent-a-Bucks that she keeps in her herd for just such visits. ;)

I am still contemplating buying a Katahdin ewe to breed and possibly a wether to fatten as well. Malcolm is doing GREAT! He has been wethered last week and he is developing his horns. They are about three inches long and already arching back. We did some more research and found that he is probably a breed called a Painted Desert Sheep. Which is basically a fairly new breed that came from many of the breeds we suspected him being crossed from in the beginning. Anyway he will be a pretty companion for our dun leopard POA pony and she LOVES LOVES LOVES her little lamb son.

Also update us on the bee project please.

Big Moe is still here and I don't know when to take him back...the farmer said to keep him for 30 days. I haven't seen any activity between these sheep except for the first week he was here and it was mostly advances made by the Bettys....little ho-bags!

I've read about the painted desert sheep and I really liked what I read, Farm. I wouldn't mind having one of those myself, along with the Soay breed. Supposed to be very hardy breeds.

Maybe you could post some pics of Malcolm as he matures so we can see how pretty he gets....they are a nice looking breed. If I didn't have to shear them, I also love the Scottish black face breed....very regal sheep!

Good thing I only have an acre, I'm thinking! :p

The bees will arrive around May 13th and I am starting on building their hive this weekend. I'll post pics of the finished product when it is complete. I can't wait to get started in beekeeping....finally!

Here is a pic I took of Mal the other night. He is such a cute little cuss. Look careful and you can see his little horns. :D

He tries to do everything his "mama" does too, which is very funny. My D1 said the other night the mare was standing with her head over the backyard fence and Malcolm was standing beside her in the exact same posture, but standing on an over turned water tank so he could look over the fence. It is tough being a shortie!

I can honestly say I've never seen a more beautifully marked sheep!! The inside of his ears doesn't even look real....like someone glued black felt in there! :p He looks like a Calico cat!

You know, I didn't know sheep were so entertaining until I got them....I love their facial expressions and how funny they run, how they climb up to look over the fence instead of looking through it and how they act in general. I just don't see this whole "sheep are stupid" thing at all....I find them entrancing!

I am still amazed with how the pony so quickly adopted him. A few deep sniffs of his little hiney and she was wuffling away and deep in love with him.

I agree. Sheep seem LOTS more intelligent than I have always heard... then again we both have hair sheep. Do you think that makes a difference?

People are always talking about how stupid turkeys are as well and I think the heritage breeds that I have raised in the past are WAY smarter than the average chicken. The broad breasted ones, however do seem a little on the slow side. Their redeeming feature is they all seem so sweet and curious. My bb Bronze follow me everywhere, but the heritage rule the roost. Even my Siberian Husky (in the past) and Husky cross dogs seem far more intelligent than most dog breeds. I am beginning to think that the hand of man that "improves" and domesticates animal breeds is responsible for making them dumb. The "wilder" the breed the smarter the animal?

Oh I forgot to say... I have been doing some beekeeping research for around here as well. In our area bees are legal if you have 3 acres or more. Now all I have to do is convince my D1 that she really NEEDS a beehive in her back pasture! :p
