Cuz you said in your journal that I was probably out chasing a horse w/a fence post! I didn't have to chase either of the 2 horses in the field w/a fence post, but I DID have to run them off when they saw that nice, big hole in the fence!

Will you be soaking the chickens in a brine? I think I've heard of others doing that but is it necessary?
Not necessary at all, but it helps to get the blood out of the meat. ;)

I'm also seriously thinking of seeing if I can find a dozen straight run chicks. I need more hens, and I can eat the boys. :D
:thumbsup That is what I LOVE to see ... CONFIDENCE!

Too bad about the fence. Do you know which horse it is that keeps breaking it?

The one fence post was rotted, but I'm not sure about the other. As for the boards, who knows? They get old and break easily. A wooden fence may look nice, but IMO, they're not worth the hassle.

And, I finished gutting the boys! Needless to say, the 2nd one was easier. I also started to skin the feet for stock, but didn't finish. It was taking too long. Don't know if I did something wrong when I was prepping them, or what. So, I stuck them in the fridge for now.

I don't clean the feet on mine. I just bag them up and give them, washed, to my friend. I have no idea what she does to clean them. :idunno

I'm pretty excited I found an animal rescue/education center not to far away. She said she would take guts, feet, and whole birds (of course). She has a puma and a jaguar to feed......among a ton of other animals.

I often freeze the by products of my butchering until trash day. Be sure you have that box of puma food well labeled. We have had a few instances around here involving my grown kids, my freezer and that interesting sack in there.

My brother used to trap. One day, my Mom was giving him grief about it. She said she took something out of the freezer, and it looked like a dead something. (Don't recall now what it was.) My brother didn't say anything, but got this little gleam in his eye. I asked him about it later, and he confessed that that's what it was!

I stopped at my parents this evening. It's my Mom's 78th birthday. And, I told them that I did the boys in. They weren't surprised. And, my dad used to have to kill the chickens when he was younger. So, maybe that's where I get it from?
