Sounds like a great day!
We have so much water pouring off the land it is crazy! Not much real flooding but everything is wet and muddy. So gross! At least the snow is good to clean mud off boots...

I was surprised when I got to the farm that the majority of my field is pretty dry. And tomorrow, I may actually be able to park in the parking area. I hope so.

Now that the stupid ram is gone, there's 2 other animals I'd like to see go, a zebu bull and one horse. Who knows? Maybe someone will decide they want them as well. The bull was supposed to be a steer and polled-he wasn't, and the horse is just a PITN.

I slept fairly good last night-for about 9 hours! I think part being able to do that was I had my window cracked open just a bit. So, it wasn't stuffy in my room. I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to sleep like that after tonight though. After this nice, warm weekend we've had, the temps are supposed to drop again, but not quite as bad. And while they're calling for snow, it's not supposed to amount to anything, just a few snow showers.

I'm hoping that it's warm enough this week that I can do some work outside. I'd really love to get gardens cleaned out and ready for spring. It's going to depend on how frozen the ground is. W/the longer days, I want to get stuff done outside.

I've finally come up w/a good plan for cleaning my basement. When I'm getting the fire going, since I have to stay down there for a bit any way to make sure the fire is burning good, I'll work on that "room". Any other time I have for cleaning the basement will be spent on other areas of the basement. I would love to have it all cleaned up by the end of March. We'll see.

Talk about giving someone a heart attack! I'm in church, my phone rings. I silence the ringer while I look to see who's calling, it's RU. Figured if it was important, she'd tried to call again. She didn't, she left a message. Then I get a text from KN all in caps telling me that if I hadn't talked to RU to call her right away. OK, now I'm panicking. I'm thinking one of my horses is hurt or dying. So, I get up and go in the church's foyer and listen to my message from RU. One of LF's horses is colicking, and she was trying to find some banamine and the vet is on the way. I had banamine, but I also don't share it w/other horses. Every one in awhile, Stormy will colic. I'm very low on banamine and you can only get it from a vet. So, if someone else uses it, then I don't have it. Plus, it costs $35/tube and I've never had anyone offer to give me money towards a new tube.

Glad it wasn't your horses! A horse coliced at the other barn and got a weekend stay at new Bolton. She had a twist, not sure why that happens.

If I remember, there's different theories as to why that happens. I lost my first horse to colic. I took her up to New Bolton. She had a tumor in her small intestines and several feet of dead intestines. There was nothing they could do for her.

This guy is still not out of the woods. The vet was there. I know she tubed him, but I didn't stick around. I figured the vet was there, RU was there, CL was there and NM was there. There was nothing I could do to help. KN went back and helped later in the day which was good since RU had to babysit her granddaughter. Otherwise, I would have probably gone back. LF has come down and is spending the night. So, if needed, I'll give her a hand tomorrow.

Huh. Interesting. I can understand impactions and even gas I guess But how do they twist? The house at our place seemed to colic about a week ago but passed it and seemed ok and then this week she twists. Very odd.
How the horse is ok. They couldn't afford surgery here (don't blame them) so they are medicating her and going for the best. She was improving last I heard, buy wasnt out of the woods either.

They twist because they're not "anchored" in place. There are various things that can cause the twist, and they don't know all the causes. Tumors can cause it, an impaction can cause it. I've even heard that gas can cause it.
