Need some major lifting equipment and good bone saws to butcher your own cow. I don't think I would tackle it either unless it was a do or die situation.
FF, the farmers around here say the same thing. Don't they ever read anything? A forum I once visited~which shall remain nameless ~ was asked about grass farming and all the farmers insisted that it couldn't be done in their area and still make any profit. Some even insisted it couldn't be done in their area at all. I gave them links to grass-feeding farms in their areas....and they still insisted it couldn't be done!
I think the general idea with that kind of denial is this: If I agree that it is the smarter, cheaper, more healthy, more environmentally sound way of farming it would mean that I have been rather less than smart or thrifty, and have been irresponsible with the health of my animals and the people that eat them and also with the environment ....and this just cannot be!
It takes a big man to admit someone may have a better way and there aren't many big men out there anymore.
I am sooooo jealous! I've been reading about the broadfork, and will need to get one in a year or two, as my dead soil is starting to come to life here, with all the poo available! I want to keep the soil as undisturbed as possible....eventually...
