:ya

Let me know how it goes!

PS - I do find that when I use a bar as a shower bar it lasts about a week. I really like to lather up, though, so that's part of the problem.

But bars I have for hand washing have lasted about a year...

Well......what a weekend it's been.

Saturday I was at the Windham High School Project Graduation Craft Show selling my soaps....sold out of a few kinds! Met some wonderful people and did some "networking". I was supposed to bring little g to a friend's house but by the end of the day I was so tired I decided we'd have a movie night instead.

Today some nice folks came and brought Fudgie's girls home. I got a little misty eyed as they started to drive off, but composed myself because I had to leave just about immediatley to go look at two nubians!

Needless to say I brought them home - Mallory and April (that's Eloise to the far left):

Since Fudgie had gone about 8 hours without being nursed I put her up on the stand with a big ol bucket of grain and got....get this....1/4 cup!

Here's what happened:

She's got the FF teats and is a B*(#@) to milk right now. I need me some bigguns that's for sure. I had to hobble her because she really wasn't having any of the milking. So, hobble goes on.

She brings her hocks as close to her udder as she can, forcing the teeny teats to go on the outside of the hobble (as in, under her rear end now). So I've got to pull the teeny teats INSIDE the hobble area and try to line them up with the bucket. Squirt Squirt Squirt we go....one handed because she's still thinking about jumping.

Fudgie's almost done with the grain so I grab the bucket and run as fast as I can to the grain bin to fill it up. As I run back I see her hobble hopping around, then hobble jump OFF the stand.....WITH HER NECK still IN THE STAND.

I get to her and move the stanchion open by 1 little notch so she can breathe, grab her hobble hopping butt and hoist it back up on the stand so she doesn't choke herself out, which I'm now debating on whether or not is actually a good thing.

Grab the grain bucket and put it in front of her and allofasudden SHE'S GONE. LITERALLY.

Hobble hopping all the way back to the goat pen gate.

Big G pops his head out of the basement door and says "How's it goin' out there?" :smack

I gave up for the night and will assess the situation in the morning. If she's THAT full I'll attempt a quick go at it...if not...she's not getting milked til 6pm dangitall....HERE ME FUDGE.....6 PM.

 Why do we love our goats? Remind me, please....

Maybe you should wait until 6 PM either way, to make her a bit desperate to get some relief. Little bugger! I always keep a can of alfalfa pellets nearby for just that reason...you never know when something will happen while the Hoover is on the stand, Hoovering away!

Well I won't snicker at your 1/4 cup because that is still what I usually get out of Ginger.

Gosh I wondered if they could jump off the stanchion with their neck imprisoned and what would happen if so. I guess I heard!

I'm glad everyone was okay.

And congrats on all the soap sales. :thumbsup

Well, I woke up at 5:15 am to test the milky waters....yes, my dear friends....I woke up EARLY for this. I am not a morning farmer by any means. If the sun ain't up neither am I.

But I kept tossing and turning thinking her udder was gonna blow so I mumbled something to Big G about who's bright fu..... idea was this and got my clothes on.

Went and got Fudgie in the dark of the morning and led her to the stanchion which is now under the deck where I could see. FYI....It's easier to milk AWAY from the other goats so they don't try to jump the fence and eat the grain...

Got her up on the stand and wiped off her udder and teeny teats with a baby wipe. Sigh...here she goes again trying to kick me away. Hobble on and a quick reminder that I am the BOSS goat 'round here. PS, it's too fricken early to mess with me, goat.

Dang she's full. Feels like a basketball is in there and I'm noticing she doesn't have the prettiest udder; she's got that way high "shelf" area that I could rest my coffee on, which was a perk at that ungodly hour of the day.

Grab a teeny teat and squirt squirt squirt we go again. Now, I'm realizing this isn't your typical milking strategy and may not be the best for us but its working for now. Instead of playing the piano Im sort of massaging the milk down the teeney teat with my thumb. Hopefully that will change but for now its the only way to get the milk flowing.

Shes about way through the grain and Ive got about cup in the 8 quart pot. She looks up and around and BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA. Hobble hops OFF the dang stand AGAIN subjecting her self to strangulation. Something must have spooked her Ive got to remember to turn the spot lights on if were going to milk in the dark again.

Pick up her rear and put it back on but by now shes talking to Nibbles attorney about sexual harassment laws and the fact that Im subjecting her to work in such horrible conditions. I get about another quarter cup out and send her on her wayhobbleless of course.

So, shes still wicked full and my hands are cramped. Im really debating on breaking out my old breast pumps and seeing if theyll work.

Oh, another PS...I'm moving that dang stand against the house so she can't jump off the opposite side any more. I WILL BE TRIUMPHANT.

Well, that's an improvement of some sort. I think :p Anyhow, good work! I put our stand up against a wall too. I had to pin them there a few times.
PS...I'm not an early morning farmer either. I keep trying, but dang I need 9 to 10 hours of sleep and I can't go to bed at 8 pm.
