Awning update. He got it back up and it's stable. One horizontal arm is bent but he can hang from it with his full body weight and it doesn't move so I think we're good. We were at TSC when a storm started rolling in. We zipped home (1.7 miles!!) and dipped the awning so the rain would roll off. Two of the rain guard supports broke so he couldn't put them all back up. That means more rain could collect on the awning and break it again. So he tilted it drastically and all the rain ran off. He will fix those broke supports at school Monday.
The storm cooled things off a bit. I'm sure it will get humid again now that the sun is back out but it's better than it was.

Ugh, two hours in the ER were not in the plans for the day. At least there was a/c and a TV to keep DS occupied. He was riding his bike up and down the street with DH walking along. He decided to do little serpentine manuevers and lost control. His chin was sliced open badly enough that although DH wanted to wash it off and slap a bandaid on it, my gut said "ew, that's gross, it needs attention." So off we went. We were seen almost right away. The only wait was for the numbing gel to take effect. He's got 5 stitches in the underside of his chin. He thinks he's won some sick contest because I have a scar from my childhood in the same spot but only got 3 stitches with mine. Boys.
Unfortunately he will not be able to actually swim at Cub Scout camp next week because it can't be immersed. He can shower and get splashed but they don't want him swimming. We have to have the stitches out in 5 days which may mean losing camp time unless their nurse is willing to do it for us. The Physician's Assistant who stitched him up actually suggested that. Can't hurt to ask. He scraped his nose and elbow but that's the extent of the injuries. He got lots of praise from all the adults who dealt with him for having a helmet on. That surprised him since he knows it's the law in CT. Oh, and although he cried when we told him we were taking him to the ER, he smiled and giggled throught the whole procedure. He charmed them all. They wanted to give him a popsicle when he was done but we had to decline since they had corn syrup in them. Then they looked at me like I had two heads. :idunno
Well, we're hearing thunder again, in addition to fireworks a few towns over. It's going to be off and on tonight and all day tomorrow. Of course! It's the weekend!! :tongue But it will bring drier, cooler temps for camp week.
I'm glad this day is over. Coulda been worse but....

Thanks ladies. I know it could have been a lot worse.
Here's a question. A Facebook friend is insisting that I have to get him to the dentist tomorrow to have his teeth checked. He didn't hit his mouth and both the ER doctor and PA-C checked them and had no concerns about them. Should I still call?
As for the helmet, we don't consider it optional and since he doesn't ride without one of us around so far it hasn't occured to him that he can even get on the bike without putting it on. At least until today. So he got reminded by all the people at the hospital how important it is. He was pretty shaken up by the whole thing. He rarely gets injured and isn't a fan of bleeding. He doesn't pass out or anything but he gets just a little freaky. This wills tay with him for a while. Then he'll be a teenager and all bets are off.

Seeing a dentist is a good idea. He could have whacked his teeth together and have cracks.

I am not sure if you remember, but last year Faith fell on her chin... Split it open and needed something like 3 internal stitches and 9 external, she also was spitting out bits of broken tooth.

I would have a dentist xray becasue the dage may not be visable.
Poor guy, I hope he is feeling ok!

Ugh, I had forgotten that but remember now. I'll give the dentist a call tomorrow if I can get a signal at camp. Looks like he'll be missing some time from the fun later in the week. Oh well! Live and learn.
I did find Tegaderm patches at CVS. They are the same thing the ER used to hold the numbing gel against the wound. I can put one over the stitches to keep it water proof for swim lessons and take it off when he's done. $.66 each. Not bad!

Mini-vent. I need to copy my insurance card for camp tomorrow. ANd my printer is out of cyan ink and won't print at all!!!! I need a B&W copy darn it!
Of course any store that sells the correct ink is no longer open. :he
I refuse to accept that this is my fault for waiting until the last minute.....

It's hot and humid still, no storms although they were predicted for hours ago. If it's like this tomorrow they won't let me back to camp on Tuesday. :duc
