If it was me I would have to take a weeks reprive before posting even after getting back from camp! Hope you all have a great time and that DS gets in a little swimming!

LOL, my feet do hurt....
We had a good day. We're with a nice bunch of kids and adults. My assistant leader ended up getting the week off unexpectedly and he's a full fledge Boy Scout leader so very handy to have around.
Swimming went well enough. The patch kept the stitches mostly dry. It's stickier than I realized so we put a bandaid over the stitches then the patch over that. He got a little wet.
He also got to shoot a BB gun for the first time. Thrilling! His group didn't get their turn in archery but they will tomorrow. Safety rules took a long time. They went fishing and made a craft in "Performing Arts", little Native American drum thingy.
It's looking like it will be a fun week with improved weather. It was warm but dry and very breezy today.

Two days down, three to go. Hot and humid tomorrow. Not going to be fun. We had a 13th boy added to our group. Tooooo many! This one is over weight, spoiled and whiny. It was awful! The walk to the lake was too much for him and whined the whole way. He said he'd rather be home playng video games. Ugh. He fell twice and scraped both knees. When we told his parents at the end of the day his mom said, Yeah, he's not used to walking in the woods. So as annoying as he is sending him to camp is a good thing.
So I got home sweaty and tired to find DH grinning like the Cheshire cat. He got the official call from the principal of the school he interviewed with. He starts August 30. He'll be writing his letter of resignation tonight. Now, bear in mind that he is working at his current school doing summer maintenance like he usually does. If they don't let him finish the summer things are going to get tight. But they'd be stupid to do that so hopefully they won't.
Anyway, we're very excited and it does mean a small salary increase. So maybe if we can save the difference he can take next summer off. Working at the old school will most likely NOT be an option!

Congratulations to you and DH n the new job!! Very exciting. Sorry to hear about you little guys accident. I hope he is on the mend.

Glad to hear you are enjoying camp. One thing about the chunky whinny kid not used to camping. Go easy on him. I am sure this experience will mean the world to him when gets a bit bigger. You have a huge opportunity here to influence him. :D

Oh yeah, we did go out of our way to praise him when he tried new things and did well, etc. But we also let him know that whining was not going to get him any where. He HAS to walk to the lake with the rest of us. There are things he doesn't have choices about. He whines about rules that we can't change. My speech to him today was that I couldn't change the distance to the lake and I couldn't change the waterfront rules. I'd be happy to talk to him about anything else on the way but I wasn't going to participate in an argument about things I couldn't and wouldn't change. He shut up for a bit and I was able to have a conversation with him about school. I used to work at his school, although he wasn't there then. But I know almost all the teachers he's had so that work. And at the end of the day all the leaders made sure that he felt he'd had a fun day. I would have dealt with it all better if it hadn't started to get hot. And tomorrow will be worse.
He sat by himself at lunch. I encouraged him to find someone to sit with but he declined. DS was clingy and I needed some space from him so I suggested he eat with this other boy so he did. He told me later he had a hard time having a conversation with him. I didn't press for details. We'll make sure they all have a good time. Today it just felt like it might kill me! Especially on the day it's our turn to clean the latrine.... :sick

Sorry about the latrine duty, but at least you have it early in the week. Maybe not as bad as it could get.

Hope the rest of the week is inspecting the fans and testing the water temperature duty.

LOL, no latrine duty yet. And NO I don't have to clean it, the Cub Scouts do!! We've avoided it so far this week. I did find out one of the leaders in our group is friends with the camp director. We've been getting favorable treatment in our schedule all week. No other group will go to archery and BB guns every day, but we will. Except for tomorrow's rain.....

Our new kid was back with a 95% positive attitude. He did have to absolute temper tantrums when things didn't go his way. Both were competitive. Kickball and a swimming game at the lake. He was unable to express himself with words. He stomp his feet or slapped the water and shrieked at the top of his lungs. When he wasn't doing that I went of my way to be encouraging and take my time explaining things. We all worked to boost his self esteem but I was too hot and tired to deal with temper tantrums so we just removed his audience and let him shriek away since he was safe both times. It obviously gets him what he wants at home!

I need to make lunches and dinner since we're eating there tomorrow night. Ugh. It's supposed to rain all day and into the evening. Fun fun!

I love it! This is the best medicine for what ails him. ;)
