Did he step on a pitchfork??? :gig

Seriously, have his scrub that thing really well with lots of peroxide or bactine.

DS looks like he is ready to go, he's so cute! He also has that look in the last one like, "Okay ma, enough with the camera already....what's the big deal?"

Thanks all!
Dace, I'm so glad your DS is enjoying his new school too. Great news!!
DH went back today. Got paid too!!! Direct deposit will start next pay period. He didn't get home to make it to the credit union tonight but they're open in the morning for a few hours. If Earl doesn't knock out our power we'll be all set. He's been keeping his foot clean and packing it with bacitracin when he has to have shoes on. I think I'll suggest he soak it in bactidine or whatever it's called. He's rolling up the awning in case it gets windy tonight. We're not expecting much this far inland but it sustained some damage from when it filled up with rain and came crashing down into me earlier this summer. I found replacement parts for it on freecycle but he hasn't had a chance to fix it yet.
The wound itself isn't so much painful as uncomfortable in a burning kind of way. The doctor he saw expected it to be itchy, but it isn't. He made me take a picture of it, at the walk-in doctor's suggestion, to show our family doctor when he sees her next week. It will be nice if it's changed significantly for the better by then!
It is raining lightly and the temperature is slowly dropping. It was another hot humid day. Very uncomfortable in school, even though the heat wave broke. Everyone was miserable and snippy. We got through it but that's about all.
DS had to go to latch-key for about 30 minutes today. He was soooo chatty on the way home, full of talk about the book he gets to keep in desk to read independently, and how they're going to Mass on Wednesday and he's nervous but a little excited about it too. It's too cute!!

Off to bed. Seems Earl isn't going to cause us many problems. Probably thunderstorms during the night but no high winds. It's been raining lightly but steadily since the afternoon. Dodged another one here in Ct.

I don't like hurricanes at all....

How is your son doing? I haven't read through to see if he is back at school yet? I hope things are better this year!!
I don't like them either. We've had a few here in my lifetime that were scary, but never had any real damage. I remember having to evacuate South Jersey one year while visiting my uncle. We were supposed to go out to Long Beach Island to visit his former secretary but instead had to leave the state. LBI got hammered!

DS is back at school, as of last Wednesday. He is eating well and taking his supplements. He seems to really like the new school and has already made some new friends. So far it's looking good!!

Still hot and sticky. Still fighting scheduling battles at school. Slowly but surely we'll get things going.
DS still loves his new school. The kids are nice. The teacher teaches. They go to the computer lab. He's got his own assigned computer. He's creating his own page. His public school didn't even have a computer lab. (None of our public elementary schools do in our town.) The nurse called me and we had a long talk about his allergies etc. She knows our naturopath (takes a spinning class from her). Okay, DS still hate doing his homework and is not following directions really well, but he won't listen to me so he can deal with his teacher. I expect she'll tell him it's unacceptable. I'm just thrilled they do spelling weekly because they didn't do it at all last year in his class.
We're off to Orientation/Open House tonight, which is happening at the same time as New Cub Scout sign ups. As the leader for the 3rd graders I kind of need to be there, but I also want to be at Orientation. DH will be there too, but he won't listen with the same ear and ask the same questions I will ask. And DS really wants to show us his class, etc. I need a clone!

So glad to hear the good news about your son's new school.

We are still struggling at work as well. Maybe in a few weeks we will be able to get it all together. It really bugs me, but with all of the budget cuts we are working with less folks doing lots more. Same as the rest of the world.

Certainly the same as here! Failing schools and the towns' people keeping voting down our budget. We can't get basic supplies like paper clips and index cards. There just aren't any. There is maybe 1/3 the copy paper available as last year, and we ran out last year. It's awful! Staff cuts, increased class sizes, no paras for kids who aren't super high need. And our schools are ALL failing NCLB. Now there's talk the state will step in, set a budget for us and the people will have to pay their taxes based on that! And yes, I'm one of them! Ugh
Just back from Orientation/Cub Scouts. Interesting. His teacher is very nice, seems to have a good handle on him already. She's got his desk front row, center already. Where was it last year?? Against the wall with his back to everyone including the teacher. I got to talk with her briefly about how he's doing. She does have to redirect him a bit. The boy sitting behind him came from his old school as well and seems to be a bit of a distraction. She may have to separate them. She checks her email daily so I won't go for days without getting answers like last year. The other parents were all very nice. One is also the mother of one of my students at the elementary school where I work. She had to pull her girls out last year because she lost her job. She was able to put the older one back in this year but my student will still be at my school for now.
I do have one new 3rd grader who will probably be joining my Cub Scout group. We know him from PreK and K at Montessori school. He and DS were like oil and water, almost unable to be in the same room. They've both matured and were in the same school for 1st and 2nd, but different classes. It will be interesting to see if they've grown up enough to get along in a small group. The kid is odd and his dad shared that he's ADHD and medicated but I think Cub Scouts will be interesting for him and he'll do well. He also knows me well enough to know he won't get away with any "stuff". ;)
