Probably a ground hog. We got several in the orchard you dont see them but they are their. We have several holes sometimes. Not BIG holes. But holes....

a tortoise will dig holes as well. Put out some flour or baking soda for tracks

Doubt it's a tortoise here. I'd absolutely LOVE that!! We get woodchucks rather than groundhogs.
I think my brother has a motion activated night camera thingy he sets in the woods. Maybe he'll set it up out there for me to see if something comes and goes out of the holes....

I emailed him. Of course there's a good chance whatever is back there could be hibernating at this point....
