Long weekend! We are all healthy and were back at school for Friday. Saturday we got our tree. It was 40 degrees and sunny. Soooo glad we didn't wait until today. Blustery winds and heavy rain. It is up in the living room, but not decorated yet. We'll get that done little by little this week. I swear we have something going on every night though. I want a pause button for my life on weeks like this! I'm not done shopping but everything left is easy and I'm not getting worried about it. Nothing to mail anymore. Our plans are set after SIL's messing things up. We will travel Christmas Eve day and head back that evening. Short and sweet. We won't be able to go the Italian bakery in Hartford for cookies since we'll be on the road. And I gave myself the year off from baking any. I will make meringues with DS and that is it! We'll have some other GF treats at home. I think I will put together a fruit basket to share. That way DS and I are guaranteed snacks we can eat too.
Today we went to church, ran errands then went to Hartford with the Cub Scouts to see the Hartford Whale hockey team. It was a great game and we enjoyed it a lot. After we got to skate on the ice. DH couldn't find his old hockey skates so he had to sit and watch. Too bad, since he's the only one of us that can actually skate. I bought a cheap pair of skates online a few years back but forgot they are a size to small. Owie! I'd skate about 1/4 of the way around the rink then have to stop because my feet hurt so bad. DS flopped around and had a great time. I will be selling my skates on Craigslist ASAP and renting for this season. DS really wants to learn so we'll try to go to the local rink this winter, once in a while. Even though my feet hurt I managed to stay on them. I admit, I am much more afraid of falling and hurting myself than I used to be, especially after breaking my arm 12 years ago.
Came home and baked 4 dozen Christmas snickerdoodles for the staff of DS's school. Everyone bakes some and one of the moms divies them up between all the staff.

A month ago I went skating with FFA and I stayed on the ground most of the time. I was soaking wet all the way home. But I had loads of fun.

I haven't gone skating in years, and I used to love it so. I've wondered if I could just buy a big tarp, use something for some low sides, fill it w/water, let it freeze and skate in it. Sounds like you had fun.

Good to hear your all feeling better.

I have never been on ice skates. Lots of roller skating when I was younger.

Have a good week.

I wanted so badly to be able to skate when I was a kid. I grew up in a university town that had a hockey team and Sundays were Family skate days. We'd go many afternoons but I could barely manage to stay on my feet. My ankles turned in horribly. With new skates my ankles are much stronger, but with skates a size too small, it didn't matter! We also used to skate in the woods behind our neighbors' house where it flooded and froze. Beautiful but easy to trip! I'm looking forward to renting some skates the right size to see if I can do better. Twice around an AHL rink wasn't too bad for an old lady!
8 days of school until vacation!!

TH, if you can roller skate, you can probably ice skate. The first time I ever remember ice skating, I was 12 yo. I borrowed skates from someone so I could go skating w/a church group. But, I had done a ton of roller skating when I was a kid w/the old skates that attached to your shoes. It was basically the same, just on blades instead of wheels.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE snow days as FF can tell you from last winter!! I especially love snow days in the weeks before Christmas. : ) We have 8 more days before break since we go straight through the 23rd.
I am actually a Speech Therapy assistant in our public schools. DH is a high school Tech Ed teacher. It's great that we all have the same schedule for the most part. DH and I are in different districts though. And DS is private school so they do things slightly differently sometimes. Like he has a half day on the 23rd but the public schools don't. As if anything useful is going to happen in those last 2 hours..... Now it just means I have to scramble to find childcare.
It is actually snowing here right now, very lightly, and not enough to keep us home tomorrow. It has covered the ground a little though and looks nice. The goats are funny to watch. Daisy and Thomas have only seen a little bit of snow once before so it is still very new to them. Even our Golden, who saw snow last year, is acting as if it's the first time. Need a snow day to watch them have fun it! oops, except that I keep forgetting to get DS new snow boots.....
