Glad to hear your chickens finally started laying again! Mine haven't stopped all winter - we used to get 10-12/day, but then about 20 birds were taken by a fox and a hawk so now we're down to 6-8/day since we only have 8 layers. (I got that darn fox, btw & as soon as I get his hide back he's going to hang on the outside of the hen house as a warning to his two friends that have been hanging around the yard!!!)

Suffice it to say I'm a little on your side, but have yet to make that leap. I do have 2 roosters that look very tasty, and the only reason I haven't done them in yet is because I only have 1 other rooster (that I'd NEVER kill), Chester, who's a RIR and I'd love to spread his seed to chicks. He's super sweet, calm and charming - but he's going on 2 and I don't know what the breeding lifespan of roosters are. I have another barred rock rooster, Joey, who'll be on the plate as soon as I get barred rock babies, but even then I'm not sure if I want him to procreate. He's super NASTY to my son. Not to me or anyone else, just my son.

Anyhoo - congrats on the eggs!! I went into the hen house last night to collect and had to throw 4 back because they cracked from the cold :/

Well, 6 out of 15 are laying every other day. It's a start. Hoping things pick up as the days get longer!
It's been a day. Actually a week. It was snowing when we got up. DH's school had a 90 minute delay. We kept waiting for them to call one for our town. Nope. DS and I had to go in on time and the snow was starting to come down harder and faster. DH was underfoot while I was trying to get us ready, doing very little that was helpful. I finally snapped and told him to stop hovering in the doorway and sit somewhere because he was in MY WAY. We ended up being late, despite his extra "help". So we barely made it to the bus stop on time. And waited for 20 minutes. Finally I told DH he was going to have to drive DS in because the bus had either come early which I doubted with this weather, or was very late or broken down. It turned out to be the latter. He had the nerve to complain that that would make him late. I was already late, but did that mean anything?? No. I held firm and he did it. I got to school 20 minutes late and I was one of the first ones there. Teachers coming from other towns were having a hard time. One ended up stuck in a ditch. It was so stupid! Half the kids never even came in. All the buses were late. It took an hour before anything really got started anyway. So everyone was cranky. Oh, and more snow coming tomorrow in the afternoon, turning to a wintry mix, then back to snow and accumulating enough that we will most likely not have school on Thursday. The computer tech came in this morning and told me she heard a rumor that they did finally decide to call for a delay but the high school buses had already left and started picking up kids. :somad
