That's right diagnoses, as in plural. Pre-Diabetes, Insulin Resistance, gluten intolerance, high cholesterol. All related. Diet changes and exercise are my prescriptions. She is recommending a Paleo type diet. SO not only no gluten but no grains. Very low starch and sugar, etc.
I can honestly say if I never eat banana, quinoa, or brown rice again I won't miss them. Baked potatoes, sweet potatoes, winter squash, white rice, and wheat flour, I'll miss!
Ah well, the journey begins....

Thank you! It is going to be hard but in a way it is some relief to know there is a path to follow. I haven't exactly been ignoring the symptoms but haven't been aggressive enough with getting traditional doctors to listen to me. I knew all these things going on were related. They just wanted to treat each symptom individually. I left out Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome which was a huge battle I had when trying to have a child. The infertility doctor saw it only as a set of symptoms and wouldn't treat any underlying cause. Because he wouldn't label it as PCOS my primary care doctor didn't really believe I had. I had every bleeping symptom on the list except the ovarian cysts. I can't tell you how I wish I'd seen the naturopath years ago. Except for one reason. If I'd gotten pregnant I wouldn't have adopt our son. And that's a thought I can't even think.... so there was a silver lining.
Now I have even more leverage to increase my gardening efforts here. I've wanted to build doors to keep the dogs off the deck for a while now and DH has resisted. But two of them are veggie thieves! The deck is about the only spot where we still get some sun light. In fact we have to have an awning to keep it usable in the summer. But it doesn't cover the whole deck. I want to keep the dogs off and do lots and lots of container gardening up there.
I will also have my share of the community garden veggies, assuming that whole thing doesn't implode.

I'll pm them, they do get personal! Don't want to subject anyone to TMI!

Thanks...the reason that I am so nosy is that we seem to have some digestion, migraine, attention and weight issues ( 3 string beans and hubby who has been steadily gaining) here. I am always curious when about such related things.

Other than reflux and a frequently unhappy belly I haven't been aware of symptoms related to gluten. Oh, wait, I'm always always itchy. I did become aware recently that if I ate something particularly glutenous, like a bagel, my finger joints would become very painful.
I just tried to answer your pm and your box is full!

Really the acid reflux was my only symptom before being diagnosed Celiac.

I think you will end up eating that brown rice and white rice once more however.

Rice is one of the few grains that contain no gluten.

That said I just want to share that tonight we went to a little pizza restaurant in the next town south from us to eat tonight. We go there because they have GREAT pizza that my husband loves, a HUGE selection of micro brew, imported and regular beers AND they serve a delicious GLUTEN FREE DAIRY FREE pizza for me!! As a matter of a fact they even have gluten free brews, desserts, and tonight we tried the gluten free buffalo wings! Even the dressings on the salad bar are gluten free! The pizza crust is made primarily of rice flour and tastes great.

As more and more people are diagnosed - more and more people begin to cater to us. :celebrate

Now that you are in the know, you are on your way to better health all around.

There is a pizza place a few towns to the south that does a gluten free pizza in a dedicated oven. I called and found that there is milk powder in the crust and cheese in all the sauces. I explained that would be keeping us away unfortunately. I was speaking with the owner and he didn't sound too interested in trying to branch out into dairy free as well. Grrrr.
It would be nice to think that I could eventually add rice back into the diet.

I quite hopeful that you probably will. Rice is one of the first foods most pediatricians recommend for babies since it is the least reactive. I do understand that it still has carbs however and THAT may pose a problem for the other diagnoses. Hopefully they will straighten out after the diet has been changed for a bit. All by itself the gluten, in a person that is intolerant, can really whack out your whole system. Since it effects the way all of your food is processed and absorbed.
