By the way our local pizza shop buys their crusts from Olivia's Oven. Check it out you may be able to buy the crusts on line so you can at least make your own pizza. :)

Looks good! I've gotten a few Ian's French bread GF/DF frozen pizzas for DS and he LOVES them. I'd rather make something a little more homemade though.
For me, I really hope I can brown rice back in at some point. And maybe brown rice flour...
I have to say, I just at lunch and I'm stuffed. I made a huge salad with lots of veggies and some uncured deli turkey (I haven't gotten a chicken in the oven since the diagnosis~I'm working on it....) I had blueberries and raspberries with a little creme fraiche-yum!) I've been nibbling on raw almonds and sunflower seeds through out the morning. We'll be eating an early dinner. DH's school puts on an Empty Bowls dinner ever year. You pay $10 for a handmade pottery bowl made in the Art Department. There are hundreds to choose from. Then the staff, parents and community members all make soups, stews and chilis and bring them in. Once you buy your bowl you can fill it as much as you like. There is also bread :(
We're going on the earlier side so DS and I will have a better selection. Our priest and his wife are coming with us. She is gluten intolerant as well. I figure the worst case scenario is there is nothing I can eat so I just socialize and eat when I get home. But there's likely to be something without pasta or barley, etc. A nice bean soup would be good. I'll avoid meatballs and anything that might have gluten filler. Most people are fairly good about listing ingredients but not always. I'm more concerned about DS getting dairy unknowingly. I'm bringing him a few safe things just in case. He used to always chow down on bread and butter.
Poor DH is feeling left out I think. I'm putting a lot of energy into DS and my diets and he's having to fend for himself. He got a little whiny last night about not having anything to take for lunch and I'm afraid I snapped. I laid it out for him. I'm not really in a mood to be baking bread right now, you know??? He's concerned for my health and part of the way he needs to support me is by fending for himself a little more foodwise. That's always been my department. Well, he can either learn to use the bread machine or go buy himself a loaf. I told him his 3 boxes of cereal a week habit isn't going to be happening if I'm in charge. I'm not even turning down those aisles in the store right now. I'm seeing more family grocery trips than there have been lately.
I think I need to reorganize my kitchen somehow.
Ugh, can you tell I've got a cold and I'm feeling overwhelmed at the moment. Not by eating this way so much as making the rest of my life fit in......

Hey hon, can you tell me exactly what your blood work was? I think I want to get DH tested, but I am not sure what to ask for. We don't have insurance so I don't have them money or the time to mess around with loads of tests....I need them to get right to the point.

MY 16 yr old tested negative for celiacs some years ago....but I know she has unexplained issues!

You really have to be careful.

For example I cannot eat a single Campbell's soup!

People frequently add a bit of flour to thicken things, or a can of something that has modified food starch in it. To them it has no gluten or wheat. I have even had people offer me crackers - after I told them I can not eat bread or wheat of any kind. They are shocked when I explain that crackers are made of flour and flour is made of wheat!!! I am really shocked how many times that type of thing has happened. People are REALLY out of touch with where their food comes from.

Whenever I eat out it is steamed veggies, baked potato with no butter or sour cream (since BOTH of those sometimes contain gluten!!) and plain grilled meat with no seasonings but salt and pepper. No gravy either can't be trusted and no salad dressings. :duc

Of course at HOME many things are back in since I know what I am eating. REAL butter and REAL sour cream etc.. When you get into label reading it is scary what most people are eating without a care in the world. Then they wonder why they have allergies, illness, and other issues.

I can try. I have my copy and I can look at the tests to see what the ones she ordered are called. I am at school now but will PM them to you within the next few days okay?

ETA: the test(s) that was/were looking for actual Celiac Disease were negative. There was one antibody test that was positive for gluten. That is why I'm gluten intoleranat rather than having actual Celiac Disease. I can see why you might wonder if there are other tests to check for you DD.

I've started doing a lot of label reading and I've been able to buy really local fresh real food more easily recently. That was already a goal of ours so that has made it somewhat easier. I haven't even given any thought to restaurant eating yet. I've been doing all the cooking. We are going to DH's band gig at a pizza place on Saturday. I can access the menu on line to see what they offer for salads. We're there often enough that I feel comfortable bringing my own dressing to avoid any hidden gluten. I don't think I can even bring DS unless he eats at home. There won't be anything that he'll be willing to eat on the menu. Every kids' menu item will have gluten.
The doctor's recommendation was NO processed food whatsoever.
We are going to friends' house for dinner in a few weeks. We've started discussing the menu. She's thinking filet mignon to spoil me. Dried porcini mushroom crust cooked in tarragon butter. I'll have to tell her about the butter issue to make sure it's okay. She's going to steam a huge pile of something green and have fresh fruit for me.

Let us know when it does. It's something I've been considering trying once I move and have more room. How difficult was it? Do you do kefir? If so, how is it compared to that as far as maintenance/ difficulty?
