Would you believe I slept in? And I'm not even hungover from the party at OFG's  I slept until 7:45. Every morning when I wake up I think 'time to milk the goaties' - said just like the Dunkin' donuts man.

The meaties made it through another night. We didn't even lock them up because I didn't want them to suffocate. It is so much more humid today and that worries me, but I don't have time to process them until Saturday at the earliest.

So. I have got to clean today. This house is a sorry mess and there will be other people around all weekend for my son's birthday.

That's about it. Time to break out the cleaning supplies and get busy.

Short garden report. I've had terrible luck with direct sowing any seeds this year because every time I put some in the ground the weather went nuts and a downpour would wash them away. It happened last week with my pole beans. OR so I thought! Those tough little buggers are only slightly displaced and they seem to love this ridiculous hot, humid weather. They sprouted in record time. Yay for pole beans!

My hubby (who does NOT cook for a living) says "Time to make the doughnuts!" almost every morning when the alarm goes off at 5:30. I'll have to tell him your version. :thumbsup

 And you know what? I would rather milk the goats than make donuts any day!

Taking a quick break from cleaning. My girls are helping me (kind of ) wash the walls and baseboards. The 4 year old is making more work for me than actually helping, but she's happy :p And I realized it's time to touch up the paint everywhere. Ugh.

SD, you have no idea how you've influenced me with your song filking (is that the right term?, it seems weird) Anywho, right now I'm singing "The meat is done...the meat is done" (to 'the Heat is On')

We processed the remaining 6 in about an hour and they are in the fridge chilling. They were all hens and pretty big - maybe 5 pounds dressed. :celebrate We are getting good at it (except for when I let hubby do the scalding, I'm better at it)
I am going to have to buy another freezer though. That was in the plans already.

I am so very tired now. A huge crack of thunder woke me up in the middle of the night. I almost wet the bed, it was so loud. I thought the storms were over when I went to bed so it surprised me, ugh. No resting today though. I have to go to the grocery and them make another strawberry pie and power wash the porch now that all the meats are processed.
Have a great weekend y'all :frow

Congratulations on getting the chickens done. I have 1 meat chicken and 7 Golden Buff roosters. It was a duplicate order that was sitting around when I came into work one day and everyone convinced me to take them home so they wouldn't just slowly die. I think a meat chick hopped into the Golden Buff basket. There is no way someone would order one meat chicken like that. But they are growing well and if the meat chicken lives to 8 weeks, then we will take him/her in with some older laying hens to be processed.

At this point we still aren't ready to do the deed ourselves. It isn't too expensive to have them processed so at this point, we will continue to do that.

These are the only "meat" birds I will raise this year. I wasn't going to do any but felt so bad for those little chicks sitting there for 2 days with no food.

Those bad storms missed us yesterday but storms are starting up around us now. So maybe we will see some rain. We actually really need some rain. Our ground is dry and cracked already and our grass is turning brown.

:woot Free meat!
Karen, if you hear of anyone wanting a minimancha doeling send them my way. I have had no luck selling the last one. She's got horns and a nice personality. I took her off CL because we've been so busy on weekends but I'll put her back up for sale soon. I'll let her go cheap just to get her gone. Seems people around here want goats with ears. I may breed them back to a nigi this fall.

Wow - I just saw the forecast and this may be the best week we have had since last fall :weee

I realized I forgot to plant cukes. I think I might pick up a pack at the garden center since it's getting late and I want them NOW :D

We got a couple inches of rain over the last 2 days so we are good for awhile.

I thought you disbudded your kids. Having horns may be a problem too since dairy goats can't have horns to be shown, even in 4H.

Her disbudding didn't take. I think she would be better for a family milker than a 4-H goat or show goat anyway.
