My last 3 kids disbudding didn't take. I had to disbud them again. The vet even did it the first time. Next year I'm definitely doing it myself. Save some money that way. I can do it as poorly as the vet did it and for free.

I think right now is a slow period for selling goats. I have one kid left to sell and I'm getting nothing too. How old will she be this fall, like in November? Maybe a bred female will be more enticing in the fall. My little one won't be old enough to breed since she was born on 4/14/11.

I will keep my ears open for you.

By the way, that free meat is costing me in feed! :p But I am happy to get them. It will be nice to add 8 chickens in the freezer.

Good luck selling your doeling, I would love to have a little minimancha, but I couldn't do horns. When goats with horns head-butt each other, do they do a lot of damage? it seems like it could get bad quick.

I AM hooked on filking, Hubby and I have been filking for years. I heard the real Stairway to Heaven and sang about half of it the OFG way, much to hubby's annoyance.

Karen - I too was thinking about hanging on to her and maybe selling her bred or ready to breed in the fall. But I'll have to see if she's big enough. I guess I don't mind having her around for now. I'm looking into banding her horns but that has to wait until it gets cold again because of flies. They are short and stubby right now, so not a problem.

I think we waited too long to disbud her - she had more growth than the others. It was a learning experience for sure.

SD that's so funny!

Man, I think I hurt my back digging out my journal
I was not feeling well at all last week and let alot of things go. Then my daughter got sick and now she's on the mend but very cranky. Nobody has been sleeping well here. I tried to go to sleep early last night but there were fireworks (way too early for this crap!) in the area which = loud booms and howling dogs. Fun. This will occur every weekend now thru July probably. Don't get me wrong, I love fireworks for the 4th of July. But not for a month on either side of it.

We got more than enough rain again last week - at least 3 inches over 3 days. And we are in for a boatload more starting within the hour. I did get all my planting done, so now it just has to deal with the rain.

I think one of the youngster chicks/pullets has started laying :ya so the others should follow soon. I have found a small green egg on the coop floor the last 2 days so I think it's one of the new gals.
The ducks are being cantankerous about their eggs - laying them in the muddiest spot they can find every day. I don't know what brought that on - they had been laying in a covered nest area for the last couple months.

The goats are good. We haven't yet been able to fence their pasture area and I'm really looking forward to getting that done someday.

My 4 year old gave me some milking advice this morning :D she said, "Mom, make sure you don't pop it (the udder) because you will kill the goat" So folks, don't squeeze too hard and pop that goat

Hurt your back digging out your journal......

I remember when I was trying to sell my buck, Freemotion encouraged me to keep trying, and I put up a newer picture and sure enough, he sold. Why don't you try a different picture? We find with getting dogs adopted that changing the photos has an effect. Not sure why.

I am so darn sick of rain!

This is waaaaaaaaaaaay too early for fireworks. I agree.

LOL to digging out your journal...

I wish I could take that doeling off your hands. I wish I could take any doeling off anyone's hands! *sigh* (but I'd probably pop 'em ;) lol)

Around here, fireworks are illegal. But, they're not illegal in PA. So of course we have people go across the river to buy them. At least, we haven't had anyone in this area really get them lately.

Fireworks are supposedly illegal here too. But the display the other night was a professional one but I never did hear what it was for. Father's day, maybe?
