I saw that ad on Craigslist yesterday while at work and someone walking by asked me what was so funny. Of course if I have to explain it, it's not as funny.

I've lurked on this site for a year and love all the different journals. I to am from Ohio and am amazed at how many of us are on here.

I know many people spell Boer wrong and that's no a big deal, but that Kinko spelling really made me laugh.

I don't know, sometimes I just really don't have anything to say. I am going to chime in more though.

Java, I love the goat pics. Perdy looks huge and ready to pop anytime!

Love the preggo goatie pics. My girl is getting rather rotund lately too, and she has until March. I think. Unless he bred her earlier, but I doubt it.

Hey Java, can you give me some info on your barn cam? I really want to get one set up since June is CAE positive and I really need to be there when she kids. It's hard for me, since I work full time. What kind of camera should I use, and how do I set it up to be able to check while at work? And it would be awesome if others could watch too!

I got this one at Amazon http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001DBROYK/ref=oss_product - The price has gone up by about 5 bucks since I ordered.
I think it will be a great camera, but we haven't got it put up yet - they left out the bolt that attaches the camera to the mount, and we have to go get one at the hardware store :/ I emailed them about it and they said either do that and get a refund for the amount of the bolt or send the whole camera back. I like the camera so we will just go get a bolt.
Anyway we tested it out in the house and it is GREAT! The infrared is awesome.
Also, it is not wireless, so you have to buy enough video cable to run to a TV, but those are inexpensive. Mine doesn't have audio, but some do. I have no need for audio.

If you would want to be able to view it on the internet, you need to get a Dazzle (a USB DVR recorder that connects the video cable to the computer) and then find a website that will host streaming video, or get a wireless camera to hook into your existing wireless network - but those are more expensive. The Dazzle will be another 40 bucks or so.

If you don't post ... we don't learn. :( One thing I have found is that everyone who gets involved and posts has different experiences and different points of view. I always learn something from everyone! :)

sekinkead - it's slow in winter too, so there is more general chit-chat :D

Thanks for the info! We'd probably want to get a wireless camera, unless they're crazy expensive. Do you mean you don't have to get a Dazzle if you have a wireless camera? We already have a wireless modem at home.

Were you the person who used MareStare or something? I remember seeing baby goats a few weeks ago. :)

Those weren't my goats on Marestare. I think Marestare has a setup that's pretty specific, and you have to pay a monthly fee. There are plenty of free hosting sites too.
If you go wireless I don't think there would be a need for the dazzle. But don't quote me on that. Then you have to make sure your network reaches your barn and there may be bandwidth broadcasting stuff to figure out and that's beyond my thinking :D I got very confused trying to figure it out and decided it was more trouble than it was worth for me. My barn is only about 30 feet from the back door, so I went with cables. I'm not that techy :p

Edit to add
It looks like something like this comes with it's own website address for viewing. http://www.amazon.com/Cisco-Linksys...3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1296060557&sr=1-3
Another reason I didn't go with this type of camera is because I wanted an outdoor camera that can withstand the cold.
