So, hubby was able to get a few more large pine crates from work. 2 of them are about 4 1/2 ft tall X 3ft deep x 4 ft wide. We are going to use those 2 to make a shed in the pasture. Woohoo! Almost instant shelter! They have a tar paper lining, I will pull it out, and put it on the outside of the shed for winterizing it. Can't beat free!! Not sure yet what we will do with the other 4....I am sure I see another duck house in my future. LOL
Today we are headed to KY, to get my little tractor. I am so excited!! A little Ford 8N...runs like a dream, and free. ( from my sister) she bought a Kabota...and doesn't need the Ford. :) The drive back will be a little scary...mountain roads, twisting and turning, up and down...with a trailer on the back of a 1 ton truck. I don't see me buckling up...might need a quick escape rout! LOL While I am down there I will be looking for some hay as well....can't find anything good and green here.
Made a pot of chili yesterday...ate some for dinner, canned the rest. I love the idea of easy dinner in a jar. Heat and eat!
Hubby is getting up, so I need to get ready here....have a great day!! I will try to get plenty pics! LOL

Hope everything goes smoothly getting your tractor! We want pictures when you have it home. I think those little 8N's are about as cute as anything!

So, Saturday started out a great morning....I was up at 06:30....had my cup of coffee...and head:thed out the door to do the animal chores. I had a little spring in my step....this is the day we are going to go get my little Ford 8N. :D Fed and watered all the animals, turned them out in their yards....milked..and even gave the cat a little fresh milk from Suzie. Yes, I was feeling generous....after all....we are getting a tractor, so now I will be a "real" farmer. I get back inside, and put away the milk, and settle in for some E mail. Nervously waiting on hubby to get up. 010:30, hubby comes down the hallway. He gets his coffee...and we start planning the route and ways, to go. He starts pulling on his boots...I jump up and am waiting on him....he said...are you a little excited?? LOL Ummm, me?? excited?? Naaaaaa....YEP!!!! We had to remove the last of the crates from his truck bed. 4 more large pine crates! Woohoo!! Get them unloaded and head over to A's to get the trailer. All is right with the world.....we get it hooked up, and off we go. Driving to KY was a little nerve racking....big hills, winding roads...and its the first time we have pulled a big trailer behind the truck. Its a 1 ton, so we are not worried about the truck being able to pull it. We get just into KY, and make a pit stop to buy ciggys. ( they are $10 a carton cheaper there) and I tell hubby, we should stop and get something to eat while we are there, knowing it will be a long day, so we walked down to a DQ for a bite. Had a good lunch, outside dining...cool breeze...we both really enjoyed it. ( altho I have to insert here, the fast food didn't sit too well on my tummy later) OK, so back to the truck, we are over half way there.....off we go! Over the river, ( the Ohio river) and through the woods, ( The hills of KY) to sisters house we go. LOL Finally...we pull up. There is NO way we are going to make it up her driveway with the trailer....we get it parked, and start the hike up. And, I mean, it is a HIKE! about 1/4 of the way up, my sister meets us in her truck...whew! I really didn't want to walk up there. So, she decided I should stay with the trailer, and her and hubby went up to get the tractor and all the extra parts. ( paint, bearings, stuff) After about 30 minutes...I hear my little tractor coming down the hill. I am as excited as a sweet 16 on prom night! Get the tractor loaded, and as we are strapping it down, my sister informs us she has 2 spare tires for the back..woohoo! she heads up the hill to load them in the bucket of her Kabota. Brings them down one at a time, and we finally get them all strapped on. After visiting a bit, laughing, and lots of hugs, we are off. Headed home. Now, there is one BIG hill we have to come down, in Maddison...scary!! There is a runaway truck pit at the bottom...we talk about how we hope to NOT have to use it. It was a little nerve wracking....but we made it down the winding hill....safe! We laughed at ourselves...how we didn't think we could handle it, and are now on the home stretch....15 miles from home...and the truck starts to vibrate....hubby slows a bit so we can check the tires..and the driver side tire on the truck is smoking BAD! UGH!!!!! 15 miles!! Thats all!!! We get it stopped, and realie..he had smoked the brakes...they are locked up tighter than a tick on a coon hound. So we sit there pondering our delima..and I decided to call A...the guy we got the trailer from. He is a great shade tree mechanic. I explain our delima..and he suggested he comes out and pulls the trailer to our house, to get the weight off the truck hoping this will help with the brakes. Well...at first, it didn't . They were tight. We try to go, and smoke pours out again. We stop, and A tells us, if nothing else, he will take the tractor to our house, and come back and load the truck up, and pull it home as well. We decided to try again..the truck started shaking TERRIBLE...hubby hit the brakes...and I guess between the heat and vibration, it let loose. No more smoke. We stop and A suggested we take the back roads home, so we can go 30 mph...and not heat it up any more. We follow him....and about 2 miles from the house, the brake lights come on...I called A, he said, it should be OK....just keep following...so we did. We come to a sharp curve, hubby hits the brakes to slow, and there are NONE! SCARY!! So I called A, and he slowed a bit...so we wouldn't have to use the brakes any more...on the curves. We finally make it home. This is where it get funny. I run inside to potty...let the dogs out..and then remembered I had the key in my pocket. So I run outside with the key and hand it to hubby. He is going to pull it off the trailer. Get the tractor started, put it in reverse...and hubby lets off the clutch....that little tractor BOLTED backwards...I swear...hubby's eyes got as big as the back tires on that tractor!! I gasped....hubby hit the brakes just before running into the stacked wood pile. Whew! We all laughed so hard. So, its home...finally..I took it for a little ride...Oh what fun!!! Next weekend we will put it to work, pulling downed trees from the woods....I hope !LOL So after all that.... here is our new "toy" Monday hubby will pull the tires off the truck and HOPE there is not too much damage on the brake drum.

Actually.....my FIRST plan, is to hook up the flat bed....throw some bales of straw on it...and take my son and his family on a little hay ride! LOL :p Then...next weekend...we will actually put it to work, pulling downed trees from the woods, to cut up for firewood. :D We are going to save for a 4 ft tiller, so I can make the garden about 1/2 acre next spring...and hope to sell produce from our farm.
