My mom goes by the local newspaper and gets the leftover rolls of paper. They can't use it on the printing machines once it gets kind of small so they usually just chuck it or recycle it. They give it to her for free. Any time I need wrapping paper I roll out what I need and get out the crayons, markers, stamps, finger paint, etc. and let the kids decorate it. Voila! homemade wrapping paper!

I also let my kids use construction paper to make all our own birthday, mother's day, father's day etc. cards.

Another plus is that we always know which package is ours when they open it!!! We don't use nametags either we just write who it is to/from on the package.

Hey Merle, hope you didn't get too mad about me calling you a caveman over on the egg bake post!!!

How's everything going with you? How's your mom and are you still looking for a place to live?

Hey Lori, don't get down on selling your stuff. We've been selling off extra stuff we didn't want to move since about March. We've kept a list on a legal pad by the phone. We were doing pretty well until June and then everything ground to a halt. I think we've only sold 2 small items since then and no phone calls like before. I have a feeling it will pick up in the fall again. Good luck!

Good news! About 30 minutes after posting my ducks online again with new pictures I got a phone call and the guy came right over and took 5 of them! $35 cha-ching!!! Lost the last day old to the hawk.....grrrrr. Gonna try putting the dog in the pen with them to keep it at bay, maybe that will work.

Going to church this morning and we're having a VBS presentation and a picnic afterwards.....gonna be a hot one today.

Sorry to hear about the hawk and your babies! Yeah a 30.06 otta do the job, LOL.

Great idea on the blank news print. I go to the paper office the day the paper comes out and they will give me the left overs from last weeks issue and I use them in the garden to try and kill out the weeds!

Had a great day at church, got to see pictures and hear about all the kids did at VBS (from reliable sources, not the 3 and 5 yr old versions). They all got up and sang 4 or 5 songs for us and some of the children said verses they memorized. We also have a mission team going to peru next saturday to do VBS in a small village there and the VBS kids raised $640.38 this week in a contest to see who could raise more, the boys or the girls. The girls won and got to play in a rented bouncy house first as a prize. GO GIRLS!!!

Had a picnic afterwards and then sweat a few gallons watching the kids play outside in the bouncy house. Hubby is at the old house finishing up so that we can get the house on the market this week after everything is cleaned up. I stayed here with the kids and had an indoor picnic/tea party with the children and several thrilled stuffed animals and dolls. Then we all read each other a book. It was so sweet to see both my children "reading" their stories to each other. Then we all collapsed in the big bed and took a nap. I've got a lasagna in the oven now and we'll have some homemade garlic toast and salad to go with it when Chad gets home.

Bad news with my freezer....seems the outlet outside went bad and hubby plugged it in on an outlet in the house that is controlled by a light switch that has been off the last few days. :th

After discovering it we turned it back on but the whole top layer of food had completely thawed out. I may be cooking chicken and ground deer meat like a madwoman tomorrow to try to save it. We'll see how it goes.
