Thanks! I'm currently re-reading The Encyclopedia of Country Living and planning things out in my head.

I am thinking about getting some new indian runners from holderread next year to introduce some new bloodlines and improve their stance. Mine are from McMurray and while I am glad they have gone broody for me this year I would like them to be a little more upright. I am thinking about keeping my chocolate hen and getting 2 more chocolate hens and 1 new chocolate drake. I think 4 is going to be my maximum number for now, although I am thinking of getting some pekins to have as pond ornaments.

My granny's neighbors behind her had a pond and had a ton of pekins when I was a kid and I loved watching them. I think they would be fun on the pond. I also have a friend that is a chef and is interested in some duck meat so I'm trying to figure that in too. I would love to get some muscovies cause I have heard they are good meat birds too and excellent mothers and quiet. I'd have to convince hubby cause he thinks they are the ugliest birds known to man.

Last night was the first night of VBS here at granny's church and we had a good time. This one is from 5:30-8pm though and it has been a little hard on my two little ones....they have been really tired.

Had to get new tires on the car yesterday and tomorrow I have to get an oil change and inspection. Why is it that everything hits all at once. First we had to get tires on the truck, then the air conditioning goes in the car and now new tires on the car too.

I've been trying to figure out what I am going to do with the garden space since I'm starting with raw land. Definitely going to do raised beds but I think we're going to save some space to plant potatoes, sweet potatoes, corn, pumpkins, and melons. I've been reading about the indian method of planting corn in the middle of a hill and then planting beans and melons around it in a circle and that seems like something I might try out.

Well, gonna go get lunch for everyone and finish catching up on the forum....

Bad new, apparently Granny's brother had a mini stroke monday night. He's a little confused when they ask him to do various tasks....got his right and left mixed up. She has gone to visit him in the hospital for a little while. I've got the kids in the pool on the porch trying to beat the heat. It is oppresively humid today. Only 85 right now but it feels like 95. If you go outside you start to sweat immediately.

I have taken so many pictures at VBS they want to put together a slide show for the ice cream social at the end.

Good grief, Maddie just tried to stand on the side of the baby pool (one of those rectangular inflatable ones) and fell into the pool. I think she's embarrassed more than hurt. What is it with kids climbing on stuff?

Sorry to hear about your Granny's brother. We will add him to our prayers.

I guess it could be worse, my kids usually did swan dives off of high furniture!

 Oh they do that too....I am constantly saying "YOU JUMP ON THE TRAMPOLINE, NOT THE COUCH!!!"

Today they are naked in the pool. We had a bad storm last night and had to stop in the middle of the road to drag tree limbs out of the way to get to granny's house. Chad called this morning and said he got a call from his uncle who lives down the road saying that we lost some of the flashing on the house last night. Chad leaves for work when it is still dark so he didn't catch it. They're calling for bad storms again tonight, right smack in the middle of VBS. Gonna be a fun night, half of our activities are supposed to be outdoors

Granny's brother is home now and his wife says he's doing alright and back to his old self. Hopefully he'll continue to be okay. My great grandmother died from a series of strokes so I hope this isn't a precursor of what's to come. He has already had treatment for cancer and was in an accident that caused his pacemaker to go haywire, but that was really a good thing cause during xrays that's how they found the cancer. He's in remission now but he's in his 70s or 80s and a semi retired farmer/bus driver/jack of all trades.

He still puts up a huge garden every year and has a couple pecan trees in his yard, loves to fish, and has cows vicariuosly through his son. :)
