I put in a post on a local chicken forum that also has a beekeeping section and they said that a local guy could probably help me out getting some hives so I won't have to pay for shipping. I'm still waiting to hear back from him, he was gone for the week on a hunting trip.

Hubby found out that I ordered 2 nucs last night....not happy. I'm gonna have to find something to sell to help offset the costs. :/

Anyway, got 3 loads of laundry on the line and my hunting clothes in the dryer for later.

Hubby told the kids they could go and get a pillow pet this evening with their own money (they've been bugging me for MONTHS and I refuse to buy them one) cause they aren't backing down.

One condition.....they have to clean and organize everything in their rooms. Maddie's room is done, she really doesn't have that much to do....she helped me pack up stuff and thin out some things for goodwill....took about an hour.

Now they are watching a special on national geographic about great white sharks and then we'll tackle "the pit" otherwise known as my 5 yr old son's room. My husband wants to build him a loft for his full bed so that we can put some shelves and a desk under it but we may have issues with the ceiling fan if we do that. For now we are just going to reorganize everything. I need to print some picture labels for all his bins to make things a little easier for him to keep things done himself and help him learn to read.

He did some school work this morning on his own.....used some stencils to make a house and a robot of different shapes. He also did some practicing writing his letters. I consider the NatGeo special part of his schooling (and mine) too. There are some advantages to having satellite. :p

Moved my tree stand yesterday after church and nearly broke Chad's thumb and hurt my leg in the process. We went to move my ladder stand and I lost my footing and the ladder buckled and scraped all the way up my right shin to my knee. I'm banged up pretty good but he tried to hold the heavy end with the seat and it it twisted around and wrenched his thumb.

I'm going hunting this evening while hubby heads to the mall for the pillow pets.

I hate kids rooms! So much stuff, so much mess!

My 8 yr old sleeps in my room but brings friends up to play in hers and then the friend leaves....well, you know the story. :barnie
Let's just say her room needs a massive overhaul right now!

What are pillow pets?

Don't worry about the no hair thing. My sister was bald until she was 2. Everyone thought she was a boy despite my mom dressing her head to toe in pink. By the time she was 10 she had the thickest hair you ever saw. She has the best hair in the family. Long, healthy, gorgeous. I hate her LOL

Pillow pets are the bane of my existence right now. They are pillows made from chenile I think and they have a hook and loop strap in the middle that cinches them up to make them look like a stuffed animal. They are "the perfect $20 gift" according to the commercial and I refuse to pay for them. The pillows aren't even that big. If my kids want them they will have to use their own money for them, I'm over it.

www.pillowpets.com but they now sell them at the mall....God, I hate the mall.... :he

I went hunting yesterday evening and saw 4 small does...my lab has more meat on his bones so I let them walk. They were chowing down on one of the food plots we just put in for them, a clover/chicory mix. We have another one on the other side of the field that has oats in it.

I had some of my kombucha this morning....kind of lemony and fizzy....I strained most of it into a glass container and put it in the fridge but I still need to drink about another cup off of the original batch and cut the scoby to start another batch going. Hubby is thoroughly grossed out, btw.

Had some mashed sweet potatoes for breakfast and I have 2 sugar pie pumpkins roasting in the oven. I'm gonna make some muffins, I think.

I'm pretty sure I killed the sourdough BB sent me....been too busy to fool with it. I love the goat milk soap though!

Still undecided on the kefir....is there anything I can do with it other than drink it straight or put it in a smoothie?

Lots!!!! I am sure Free or someone can answer this better but this is what I use it for.

Strained, in place of sour cream. Save the whey for fermenting.

Really strained in place cream cheese. I have a great zucchini bread recipe that calls for cream cheese. I use my kefir cheese instead. I use about 4 to 5 quarts when I make cheese.

BTW, I know most people around here are cutting back on white sugar, but I add a bit to the kefir, that or honey. Just give it a good shake and this is what the kids have as snack while they do their homework. We use 2 or 3 quarts a week like this.

I hope that helped a bit.

About your kumboucha??? What is the base yo put the scooby in? Juice, tea?

You can also drain it a bit (think yocheese) and make a dip/spread with it. I add some herbs, chopped cuke, red onion, bell pepper etc....then add a little sea salt when ready to serve....delish! Dip veggies, or crackers or spread on a bagel.

Mine just doesn't seem that thick....it is really liquidy. Am I doing something wrong?

My kombucha is in tea....gonna add honey to this one in place of some of the sugar. I kept back another cup of the starter and a chunk of the scoby in case I screw it up. ;)

Hi Lori!
Sometimes it can take a while... Say and week or so before it get's used to the milk.. Remember I use raw goat milk, it might be a bit different for storebought. It won't be THICK thick but it will seem rather.. coagulated or curdled together as one almost.

Those are all great ideas for kefir!
