Had to redraw the property lines cause of road issues so we are down to 2.5 acres for now but we have aquired 65 feet of woods because we had to turn the property line. FIL said he doesn't care where we put in fencing cause it will eventually be ours anyway so that is good. Barb from Cornerstone Farm sent me the plans for her dream barn so that has helped me gain some perspective. She has 30 goats that she milks so her plans make a lot of sense. We are still working on the money issue but we'll see what happens. It's not supposed to snow until later this afternoon and later tonight so I am going to the library and the grocery store real quick.....oh, and I picked up a copy of the new Square Foot Gardening book for $5 at Dollar General and now I am dreaming of my raised beds.......I can't wait to try some new plants this year. I want to do some kale and swiss chard and maybe some fennel and some purple carrots for the kids. Every time I look at one of my books or seed catalogs I think of something else I could add.

Oh, and we have had a casualty.....ironically it was the hamster. All this snow and stuff and one of our inside animals kicks the bucket, go figure. Poor thing, Chad gave him some treats and evidently he stuffed his pouch so full of stuff he got stuck in one of his tubes and um, expired. Sad thing is that my husband threw away the cage (it was broken anyway) and the kids have not even noticed he's gone.

Sorry to hear about the hamster. I think those things are pretty fragile. Mine died all the time when I was growing up. Glad to hear your home and safe after all that snow. Stay warm and keep dreaming of the garden it will help. :D

That is hysterical!

Well, wednesday, today we got 3-4 more inches of snow and they are calling for more on Saturday and Monday. Yay!!!!! Can you hear the sarcasm in my voice?

My poor chickens are not laying at all and refuse to leave the coop. I shoveled snow today and threw out left over sausage and eggs in the hopes that they would at least come out to eat. After a few lengthy conversations among the hens, Ozzie finally pushed his way through and came down the ramp for some vittles. Of course, everyone followed shortly thereafter once they saw that Ozzie survived the white death. They spent all morning in the run like little flamingos standing on one foot.

Got the kids outside and played in the snow for about an hour this morning and made a loaf of bread, then had rockfish that a neighbor gave us for dinner, yum! Gonna go see FIL this weekend and sign the deed to the land!!! Then we are going to granny's to help move furniture and sign the deed to the trailer!!! Then we get to go to the bank and see if we can get a loan to move the dang thing.

I want to post some pics of the kids in the snow but I'll have to do it tomorrow. Working on sketches of the future barn and property layout......ahhhhhhhh dreamin', fun isn't it?

It sounds like things are moving right a long ....finally!

Good luck on getting the loan, I hope that is a smooth transaction!

Sorry to hear about all the snow, everyone is really getting hit hard. I am sure it must get old, especially with kids underfoot!

I will be thinking about you and sending prayers your way.....keep us updated :)

As you can see we had a good time yesterday! Had some melting yesterday afternoon and today it is supposed to get up to 40 degrees so that will help. We have been lucky that we haven't gotten the accumulations that the north has gotten but we are supposed to get more in the next week. Will it ever stop??? :barnie

Now don't knock eating squirrel. They taste great in a Hunter's Stew or country fried in some good gravy with smashed potatoes and even better when they are no longer tearing up your fruit trees and stealing your tomatoes! :drool  :gig

Love the picture of the tree! Very beautiful! The snow here goes up to my 4yr olds waist. SIGH. We have vast amounts of melting going on here today, so hopefully, my snow will look like your snow in no time!!!

Hey if tree rat is all I can harvest, than so be it. Unlike a rabbit, squirrels just don't seem to have enough meat on their bones. I did harvest 9 dove this year, not much meat there either, tasted funky but was editable. I remember eating many fried rabbit/squirrel dinners when I was a child. Only one set of squirrels around here right now, some little pine squirrels also, but a couple grays by the shop.

Fried Hampster recipe

12 cleaned hampsters
2 cups flour
2 tbls of garlic powder
salt pepper to taste

Rinse meat, roll in flour fry in cast iron pan til done. :D

Side dress with home grown greens, bread and iced tea!!
