:gig Do you know how EXPENSIVE 12 hamsters would be???? That better be one good recipe! I always joked that it took 6 squirrels to make a decent sandwich......

Well, its Friday, I am waiting on the Dish Network guy to come fix the satellite dish. Must have gotten whacked out when Chad tried to know some ice off of it in the storm. So they are supposed to be here shortly after noon....like now. Then I have to run into town (after I get my loaf of bread out of the oven) and get the deed paperwork!!! It's not official yet, it still has to be signed by everyone but we are headed to granny's house after Chad gets home to go get the deed for the trailer. Then I guess we have to wait for all the snow to melt before we can do ANYTHING...

Is it spring yet?

Well, been gone for a while, computer in the shop and trying to get paperwork done for the property/doublewide. Still not ours yet but hopefully we can get everything to the courthouse and official next week. Gotta go out of town again tomorrow to go get my DD....she wanted to stay with granny again.

Been reading a lot and making plans for the layout of the barns and new coop at the new property. Things are looking good so far and I think I have gotten a good barn layout....finally. I think we are going with a 20 by 30 ft barn with an open loafing area, feed room, milking parlor, 2 small kidding pens and some flex space. Barb from cornerstone has really helped a lot.

Things here are trying to melt and turning into everyone's favorite thing......mud! I thought I was sick of snow until it started turning to mud. We have been getting rain lately on top of the snow and everything is a mess.

Before we left for the lake last week I made a fresh loaf of bread and left it on the counter to cool and had to run to the lawyer's office to pick up the paperwork and when I got home the dog had jumped up on the counter and eaten the whole loaf of bread. D%#@ dog :somad

LOL. Be nice to the poor dog. He loves bread to!!! In seriousness, that would have really upset me too. Glad to hear you have things sorted for your barn. I was talking to a guy at work the other day and thought of you. He said he went out on a job and went to a guys property and the roof of his pole barn had collapsed.

The owner of the barn told him that he had hit that barn several times with his dump truck and it didn't move the barn but dented his dump truck LOL. He was incredibly upset over his barn...obviously. (no animals were hurt in the retelling of this story)

So tell me. Where is the best place to get chickens?

I'm set on getting me some this year and will make something magically happen just so I can get them. I will waive my magic wand over the budget and hope Peter doesn't get to upset that I'm robbing him LOL.

I've been looking at McMurry Hatchery...or should I go to Tractor supply and order there...or is there a local place I should go to?

What say you Oh more experienced and knowledgeable one?

Well.....I have ordered from Meyer, that's where I got my broilers and I was pleased. I ordered my ducklings from McMurray, I think and they were good. I am getting rid of 7 of my 10 indian runners as soon as we move if you're interested.... :D We have decided to keep a trio of chocolate, they're my favorites. We are planning to build a huge run for the chickens and put the ducks in the opposite end with a small pond. They all eat the same dang food anyways.

I have also been told that Welp is good. I want to order some more assorted brown egg layers but I don't know where or when I'll be able to do that. We are planning a new chicken coop that is 12x12 with a feed storage room.

Let me just take a moment to rant.....I just got off the phone with my husband. We have not gotten the deed papers notorized and filed with the county yet so technically the land is not ours yet. It should be done next week. He is trying to get permits done already for stuff when the land is not ours yet. Not to mention that we still have to go to the bank and get a loan to pay for everything (which will be paid off when we sell our current home). I am trying to slow him down. I'm sorry, does that not make sense??? How can we get a permit for something when the land isn't on the books as ours? He wants everything done yesterday and I can't make him understand that there is a process to this and it takes time. :he

Back to the chickens, I have purchased some locally at chicken swaps here in our area too. Sometimes it is easier that way cause you eliminate shipping costs and lots of people have chicks in the spring so you may want to see if anyone in your area (I can't remember exactly where in Va you are) has anything you might be interested in.

www.petchickensofva.com may be something you want to look into.....there are lots of breeders on there from all over Va.

Thanks Lori!

I don't know how many I'm going to get yet, but will definately be going for chicks so the short people and I will be able to watch them grow. I am set on getting a Polish. CRAZY looking chickens LOL. She'll be a pet. I'm sure I'll get one for each of my kids and then the rest....

I am so excited that they could potentially become my dinner LOL.

Don't worry about paperwork. I know you must be frustrated - and your hubby too, but this too shall pass. Breathe in breathe out.
