Well, we got the permits started yesterday....got our well and septic permits started and the perk test will be done in the next 2 weeks. We are getting estimates for the well and septic and all the construction stuff. We are meeting with the builder today to discuss the barn construction and we are also meeting with a friend of ours that is going to do the driveway and pour the footers for the trailer.
Went to dinner with my BF last night and had deer burgers and fries and a big ol tossed salad with some of my mom and dad's homemade cherry wine.....drank a little too much and woke up with a screamin' headache...
Got home and fixed the washing machine....the c clamp on the drainage hose had worked it's way loose... very easy fix, thank goodness! Took longer to get the back off of the machine than it did to reconnect the dang hose.
Got to get out the printer and print out the VDOT permit...Virginia department of transportation....for the driveway. They want $1040 for the permit to put in a culvert pipe. Are you kidding me? Supposedly when it is completed and passes inspection they will refund us $1000. WTF??? They don't even put in the culverts anymore, WE have to do that. Ridiculous.
Anyway, we are again in limbo....can't do anything until the perk test gets done so we are waiting.
I remember the hurry up and wait from when we built our place a few years back.
The cost of the permits here was incredible!!! We ended up getting some back - having mowable grass was one requirement for one of them and we got back around 1,000 for that one I think.
How I hated it!!! I'll send lots of good vibes your way to try and help a little.
Lori, look at all that space!!!! So happy for you and I can't wait to see what you do with the place! I can see the beautiful animals dotted across that green expanse, a garden growing lush and green and a beautiful home with kids playing in the yard....Heaven!
We met with the builder last night and staked off where we want the house and the barn and I think it is really gonna be nice the way we have it layed out. We have to put in 1100ft of driveway.....that'll be 4 grand, easy. It's amazing how fast the money just disappears.......
We think the barn is really going to be good, our builder is a country boy and has built several barns for clients so he knows what's what. He laughed and told us that he is building a chicken coop for himself as soon as the weather warms up a bit. We may go with a 30 by 30 but if it comes in lower than what we expected we may extend the loafing area by 10 feet, it wouldn't increase the cost that much cause it is just the frame really. I think we may just concrete the feed room and milking parlor to offset the costs a bit and put down some gravel/rock dust mix in the open space. I think we are going to do the loft as a 20x20 and leave the rest of the upper space open.
It was soooooooo windy up on that hill last night....whew. It will be better once we get some structures up there and maybe plant some trees as a wind break.
I think we can realistically say that we could be moved in in 2 months or so. Once we get the driveway in it will go much quicker. The permits are what will delay us if anything. So hopefully we'll be in with some time to spare as far as getting my garden in for the year! I'm going to do 4x4 raised beds in front of the house so it will be pretty easy to get ready to plant. So excited!!!
Gonna go to granny's house this weekend and have a birthday party for Tyler....he turns 5 on Sunday, I can't believe my BABY is 5! All of his church class is coming over for hot dogs Saturday night so it should be fun. We are going to turn them loose in granny's unfinished basement so they'll have plenty of room to run!
I know, I haven't had my children all week and it feels like it should be tuesday but it's friday already. Where do the days go...I can't believe it is almost March!
