zombie meat was not what this thread was about.

Feel free to go start your own zombie meat thread if this one does not interest you.

I think factory farming and industrial practices turn good meat in to zombie meat.

(The fact that ohio is raising her own zombies is another topic :gig )

Well, I read that 9 out of 10 comedians interviewed recommended against eating meat.

It's the b12 deficiency from a lack of meat. It causes brain shrinkage.

If I'm not badly mistaken, ammoniated meat was addressed in Food, Inc as well.

So with the animals mushing around in ankle deep manure, eating grain that acidifies their system and helps create E coli that isn't killed by stomach acid, being injected with hormones, antibiotics, wormers and more "proactively", running through a slaughterhouse where their manure coated bodies bump against everything, being sprayed with ammonia & chlorine to kill the bugs in said manure, and let's not forget the runoff from the confinement that leaches that acid resistant E coli into spinach fields... well, I don't see how anyone can honestly say that the meat industry is A-Okay.
We just had a small article (typical ) about ammoniated meat in our local paper. I was very sad to see that it is also going to schools :/

Icky icky stuff!

Meat is not a problem. CAFOs are the problem.

It's the system, not the raw material.
Amen!
That may well be true but the vast majority of us cannot grow our own meat. If I could, I might consider eating it once in a while. But if my only affordable option is supermarket or restaurant meat, I will stick to my beans, thanks.

Well I try to buy organic but honestly economics is a driving force here....family of 6 and we are going to have to find a way to afford the best meat we can.

Frankly I do have to buy CAFO meat on occasion and I am not proud of it, but it is not always easy to execute on our ideals. BUT I am educated about the issue and moving as fast as I can away from CAFO meat.

I love the bison tidbit Free! Never knew that!

Dace I have a family of two and I have the same problem. this is why I opted to stop eating meat. I know that is not a palatable option for everyone; but I never liked meat anyway. A vegetarian lifestyle suits me.

That is great. I am on the fence about vegetarianism, so I have opted to stick with meat. We don't eat a ton but no where near veggie!

I just have to keep plugging away at finding healthier sources for meat. Got a pig being raised up right now, gonna look for bison (think I saw it somewhere, just can't think of where) sticking with the way over priced organic chickens (not in a position to raise my own meat birds right now).
