Just call Sarah Palin. She'll get them straightened out. She did it for a lot of things up there in AK.
Where is she now?
Hey now!
We may not see eye to eye on everything, but we do not pick on her either.

Moving on...
I'm NOT picking on her...I voted for her. I'd like to see her come back and apply a little more of her "good sense" to what is going on NOW...
:) We are so used to the horrible or snarky things people say in passing.
We know some of her family personally, and have mutual friends all around.

Another form of punishment for us who choose to stay at home and not work. Some people just can't get why would you stay at home and not make any money??? :smack

Simple math....if you are the least bit industrious, you can save so much more than you could make! Most people don't consider income taxes and all the expenses involved in working when they do the math. For some people, that second income actually COSTS the family money.

No kidding! Ever priced out childcare?
If I worked and we had kids, I would be hard pressed to even make enough to childcare.
All so I could "be fullfilled" supposedly.

Generally, SAHM or SAHW are far from oppressed, and most certainly live very fullfilled lives.

One of our illustrious feminists loves to tout that staying at home is the same as being in a concentration camp.

Guess what I say to that? :tongue

When my kids were younger, I sat down one day and figured out how much I would actually make if I worked.

We would have had higher electric bills since I would not have been home to keep the fire going. (Our heat is electric)

Our food bills would have been higher since I would have been too beat to cook and you get tired of Hamburger Helper pretty quickly. (Had a lot of that when I was in college. I've never had it since. :sick)

We would have had to pay for child care.

Our car insurance would have been higher since I would have been putting more mileage on my car.

I would have been spending more on gas, car repairs, maintenance, etc.

I would have had to spend more on clothing and personal appearance.

Grand total that I would have maybe made once everything else was factored in? $20.00 if I was lucky. And, as far as I was concerned, it wasn't worth it.

I figured it up also,...I ended up spending more than I would have made. It pays more for me to stay home,...which I don't mind. :D

Thanks you Free!! I feel as if I have finally been understood. Don't forget the tax bracket. If I worked we would loose so much more to taxes.

But please explain this to my in laws.

Yep, that's why we waited to have our kids until I got all my debts paid off....took 3 years of very hard work on my part but I did it...

I just couldn't justify going to work and paying someone else to raise my children. Now I have the same philosophy about public schools....why would I pack my children off and send them to someone else to teach them. I can't afford to go to work....lots of people don't get that.

I worked with a girl that had no choice....single mom of 4, her daycare bill was astronomical. Her mom helped her a lot but even when her kids all got into school she still had to pay for after school care for all 4. She was forever pulling double shifts just to make ends meet.

I am very fortunate that my husband's income allows me to stay home. Not everyone is that lucky.

I think everyone would be surprised if they actually did the math to see how much the second income brings in after expenses like insurance, gas, car maintenance, work clothes, eating out, child care, etc.
