Well, having grown up with a father commanding everything from my mother, I say all the more power to feminists; about time women are able to have such freedom after how many thousands of years. I am thankful that in today's world, in the US (for the most part) deciding to stay home and take care of the family can actually BE a choice, not an expectation, and that both men and women can do it.

That said, belittling and targeting other's just because they do not following the same ideals is always wrong, so that French lady can stay in France with her landfill of stinky disposable diapers.

If I'd had children- I would have used lots of the eco-bio stuff, including fresh made Mama milk and cloth diapers. Women can nurse at many types of work. It doesn't take much time to adjust a baby sling and throw a shawl on your shoulder.
exactly. and you'd do it because it's a part of your value system, not because you've been brainwashed into thinking that it's the only thing you are good for. so many people just can't understand that making the choice to be a "more traditional woman" is not the same as being forced to be that woman because society has given you no other option.

i also think it's insane that these people think that giving birth at home and without the use of drugs is because of "masculine domination." how about it being a celebration of the intrinsic powers of a woman and her body and a determination to not let some highfalutin' doctor tell her she's doing it wrong by trusting in herself?

stepping off the soapbox. if i keep on ranting like this we're going to get OFG's journal shut down! i think i'll go blog about it instead.

Now that you mention it, BibB, I do recall hearing of a man in the Netherlands (or the UK, not sure) who was trying to start lactating so that he could take care of his baby better. Quite odd, yet weirdly sweet. not sure if he ever got the milk flowin' though!

REAL men have ALWAYS given women honor, respect and equality in the home. Throughout history there are examples of strong women and strong men who have worked together and achieved greatness. Their have also ALWAYS been tyrants, both male AND female. They often seem to be the ones that get the most press.

My hubby (who is always studying something) read an interesting book a while back called "Brain Sex : The Real Difference Between Men and Women by Anne Moir". The book studies the biochemical differences between the brains of men and women and there ARE HUGE differences.

Men and women are equals in every way, but we ARE different and VIVA the difference! It takes many skill sets to make the world work right. No one should EVER be criticized for doing what they feel most natural doing.

around here i'm the carpenter (you should see my 12" compound mitre saw whoot!) but i've only looked under the hood of my truck once (under duress). while i'm on "life" - pippin' chicks out and bein' in the splash zone when the goats kid (and then puking shortly after) - The Big Man is on death (he has to dig the sad holes and deal with "the bodies" of our losses.

i'm better at seeing who is sick before my man - but he can tell when the tires need to be rotated on the truck. maybe these are traditional roles but we consider it to be using the skills we each have to the best of our abilities. i dont consider it a failure to go and get someone who is a foot taller and who has 150 pounds on me if i cant lift or tote a heavy object, that is for sure.
AMEN! DH and I are like that, where one has a weakness, the other has a skill, even if it isn't in the scope of the traditional gender role. I think it just means that we really were designed for each other.

You are right FF, but unfortunately, historically, they are very few, and the tyrants out number them. Even the Bible has it's instances, which is where my dad get's his reasoning on the issue.

Double amen to that - balance in a relationship is a great thing! 'cept neither one of us can fix a car, and I sure wish we could :p I'm going to try to influence one of the kids in that direction :D

Pie can do wonders for a board in flames

Gotta shut down, we are getting a thunderstorm. Yikes, it's a power-packed one. :frow Bye now.
