and sorry to hear about your poult!

and to Karen, sorry to hear about the cria, how awful!

It is getting really nippy here, too. We have had a gorgeous fall however, we had an early cold snap so all the trees changed colors fast. Usually by now, we have had a big wind storm and all the leaves are scattered about, but this year, the trees are holding on tight to those leaves, it is nice! This year has been the coldest so far since we moved up here, so we are feeling like stocking up for the winter, how about you?

I'm still in shorts. No reason to dust off the jeans yet.

We have the oil heat turned way up because our old cat is very sick right now and the woodstove is getting installed tomorrow!

Our furnace went on last night - I keep the house thermostat just below 50

Hey OFG, sorry about your poult. I sure hope the others make it just fine. :hugs

We have had the heat on. It just gets too cold in a log home (at least our log home). The heat never turns on during the day. Just at night. We keep it at 65.

The owners were pretty upset about losing their cria but they have been in the business for a while so they understand those things happen. Of course this has to happen to one of their best quality girls who was bred to a high dollar quality male. I hate it because I have to deal with my own feelings, the female alpaca who mourns for her cria and the owners. Makes for a tough day but today is better. Now we concentrate on making sure the female alpaca doesn't get a uterine infection. Onward and upward!

I'm looking forward to the warmer weekend although I really don't mind the 50's. Good weather to work outside in. I'm just hoping the last 2 alpacas that are here to give birth do it this weekend while the weather is nice.

Karen, sorry about the cria. It is difficult to deal with, no matter how often you go through it.
OFG, sorry about the poult. I was glad to come home and find that everyone survived my absence and some critters even improved. The boys did an ok job of continuing the medical treatment I had started and dealing with an obnoxious rooster who will soon become dinner.

We got rain last night, a good soaking rain. I don't think my travel laundry I hung up yesterday will dry any time soon :/ I put the second load I had in the washer into the dryer this morning. I hate using the dryer.

Hope everyone has a good day!

so yesterday we drove over to get Debbie. i anxiously ran into the barn, calling her name "Debbie! Debbie!" and she came (wide eyed) trotting over to the gate, let me give her a few pets and....

she ran from me. like ran AWAY.

me (hurt): Debbie?
she: i gots to GO! i'm not going back to that circus.

me (getting into the pen): Debbie! come over here right now
she: no way jose! (turns and runs outside)

by that time i had been swarmed by his prize winning herd of (very big) goats. all pushing and stuff... yikes

so the running around went on for a while but it was a slo-mo chase b/c i didnt want to excited the rest of them. i couldnt catch her. after a dozen iterations of "here we go 'round the mulberry bush' i gave up and asked The Big Man to fight his way into the pen of (very curious) goats and of course...

Debbie went right to him.

traitor. the both of them. sheesh!

but we hurried right along. his huge buck that looks and smells like an orangutan was going all nuts and trying to figure out how to get over the fence and kill us. yikes!

so we got her home just fine. she and Nibbles have been going at it pretty good. Nibbles is mad she isnt an only child and Debbie never really liked her much anydangway.

i gave Deb the squeeze yesterday - i'm pretty sure she's mostly dry but we'll see if we can get some milk going with her, if only for the pigz.

got more malfeaceanse going on today so i'm gonna get to it. but first...

i'm having pie for breakfast! whoooot!

happy saturday everyone!!!!
