wow! Quail thats horrible!!! Boubon Red got that huge dumping a couple weeks ago.. sheesh.. i guess i'm next. yikes!

thanks Java and K - and for the tip about them not wanting it if it gets old. Nibbles thinks its the best thing she's ever seen. i also got them some BOSS to beef them up if they need it.. but not FATTEN them up. oh golly Nibbles is getting big. Debbie dropped LOW but i woudlnt be surprised if she only has one baby. as long as its one GOOD baby... a doeling that will milk like the dickens.

as i was standing around cursing the snow i made chicken liver pate with a LOT of brandy. its stupendous. then i made a hot toddy with a lot of brandy. i guess a fruit cake is next then just drinking it straight out of the bottle. whoo hoooo!

anyway - talked to my hay guy so that is on the agenda tomorrow. he's a decent sort and is giving us a deal. we're getting some older mix for $1 a bale. he says its good enough for cows (no cows here!) and is better for bedding. so we're going to use it to bed down the turkeys and chickens so they can peck around it in.

thats the scoop here. for now i'm gonna go and finish watching the Victorian farm. whooot!

:)

The snow belt is living up to its name, my 35 minute commute home took an hour and a half.

One day closer to Spring

Just remember that as Ohio is finally thawing out and the snow is melting, Colorado will be hitting its peak snow season. We usually get 2 or 3 wicked blizzards and lots of wet, heavy snow. Then someone flips the switch and we skip spring and go right on in to summer :p

Tell me about your canned ground turkey, OFG! How did you do it? Did you season it, or just cold pack it and into the canner?

:frow Gotta run, Dad is coming over so we can finish butchering that last side of pig and I didn't watch him for the third one and I got no fat to salt, so I have to put the brakes on him. He loves using his dad's saw and gets a bit saw-happy! It is fun to watch. DH took some more pics today. I hope they come out.

It is all because of you, my friend! Thank you so very much for all the encouragement, praise, cheerleading, check-ins, inspiring blogging, and entertainment. You ROCK!!!!

:love

oh who me?? smoochie smoochie baby!!!! but you were the one who did all the work!,

:)

the ground turkey was easy peasy. i just followed the instructions in the canner booklet, so

* fried up the meat in a pan - tried for 'big chunks'
* no extra fat b/c it was super lean
* packed into pints, filled with boiling water
* processed 11 lbs for 75 mins.. easy as pie

whoooot!
:)

ps free did you have pork for dinner! whoooot!

Nope, no time for pork for dinner, as dh is not allowed to cook that precious stuff. :p I had to work until around 7 PM. But I have a pot of lard to can after I go milk (jars are on to boil) and then I will put a big pan of rough meaty bones in the oven to roast, then into the big stock pot for an overnight simmer. Tomorrow.....soup, stew, or something like that! I will have one more big pan of bones to do. But I work even later tomorrow night, so hopefully we will come home to some yummy stew. If I am organized enough tomorrow!

I should be journaling this..... later....

General snowfall in Ohio isn't that much right now, living in the snowbelt with the lake-effect snow, we have the potential to get up to 6-9 inches through Saturday. :hide

I miss living in central Ohio.

We got about an inch here in the center of OH. Looks like it's going to build gradually for us like it did in early Dec. Fine by me - it stays off the roads that way.
