My hubby just started a small batch of peach wine from some peaches left over in the freezer. Smells interesting.

We were doing ok with snow totals and drifting until today. We got the lake effect snow. A squall came down through Lorain county into Ashland county and we got nailed. Now we got drifts and lots of snow. I know what I will be doing today.

You don't need grapes for wine, you can make wine with almost any fruit! Grape juice needs no added sugar. Other fruits can flavor the water and added sugar or honey can bring the sweetness level up enough to get your alcohol level up. For example, I used 3 gallons of raspberries to flavor five gallons of wine. You can also make mead, which is just honey, water, and yeast! Or you can flavor that basic mix, with fruit and/or spices, like my cinnamon/vanilla mead that is brewing now, or my orange/ginger mead, also bubbling away in the carboy. You have the honey....and you can stretch the honey with some white sugar if you don't have enough.

So if you use your own honey, the yeast will cost about a buck, and you can save bottles or get them from the recycling place in town....your main cost per bottle will be the corks! At about 25-30 cents each. You can buy your basic equipment for your first batch and still rival Two Buck Chuck in cost, and then you will have your carboy and equipment free and clear for your second batch. Assuming you have to buy a new carboy at $35-40. You may find one on craigslist, like I did, for $20 with crates. I don't use the chemicals.

You can also use gallon jugs if you have them, just buy the bungs and the airlocks, about $2 per jug, and can be used over and over.

And...I make a mean kahlua, baby! Wonderful with the cream from the top of the goat's milk! And I don't use the powdered coffee crap....I double brew good coffee and use real vanilla beans in mine.

Oh, shoot, I forgot to try the liqueurs last night when the folks were over for dinner. Got out a bottle of wine without thinking.....poop. Tonight!

My parents made three kinds of wine this year. They made blackberry, grape, and cherry. The cherry is BY FAR my favorite. The first batch of blackberry they made last year was really good but this year's batch tasted like robitussin to me. :/

They were making so much wine they bought one of those Jack Lalane juicers....the pricey ones and they are thinking of getting a second one. They planted 25 blackberry bushes last year cause they liked the blackberry wine so much.

I planted cherry trees..... :D

That robitussin may just need some aging! Or make sangria with it, add the juice of a lemon or lime and a little stevia, and anything is drinkable.... :D

Ooooooooo I haven't had sangria in AGES.....we used to sell it at Hooters, weird I know but I had to learn how to make it. We used burgandy wine, lemons, limes, and oranges with a little sugar and a shot of sprite from the soda fountain. :drool
