I just finished canning up my spaghetti sauce...4 half gallon jars! I LOVE my half gallon jars!!
UGH! For my size family the pantry is NEVER big enough! We have been watching the TV series Jericho on Netflix and then I reminded of just how UNprepared and how small our pantry really is!!
Ugh! UGH! and UGGHHH!! No basement or attic here!! We have ZERO storage space!! :barnie Having NO storage space leads to a lot of stress too because I swear everything is always sitting out and there is just no place to hide stuff.
3 more years and we are moving!!! That is the plan anyways! Our house should be paid off and our oldest will be graduated and working so we should be able to move then!

Off to start on pickles....

Wow I thought for certain yo must have a big ol'basement with shelves lining the walls. Goes to show how our minds work. I would put those kids to work digging a cellar.

Make it a school project. ;)

I got 12 quarts of Dill pickles canned up and I barely made a dent in the box of cucumbers!
I also turned 10 pounds of potatoes into homemade french fries! YUM!

DH and the boys are part of the men's ministry at our church and part of that ministry each man is assigned a widow or single lady in the church that they are responsible for helping. They are in groups of two. So this evening DH, two of the boys, and the other guy on their team went to haul a load of mulch to clean up their assigned ladies yard. She had a tree taken down and the stump ground. So I got all the mulch to put in my garden! YAY! Last summer they painted her garage for her.

What a wonderful service project. Is this something that is a one time shot or do they help her throughout the year? I can imagine that is such a relief for her knowing there is someone to help.

Great job on the pickles. Do you freeze the fries?

My relish only made 6 pints. Not sure why it was so lean. No bigy though I already have 12 done. I don't think we will use 18 pints of sweet relish in one year. :)

Freeze the french fries??? Bhwhahahahaaa!! Ummm...there isn't any left to freeze!!

They mostly do something whenever she requests something to be done and so far those are the only two things she has requested. My oldest has helped another guy from church with his assigned lady a couple of times. She makes more requests! LOL! Just stuff like laying mulch and cleaning gutters. My boys LOVE to help! It almost annoys me..ok sometimes it annoys me a lot...because they do so much volunteer stuff with church that sometimes stuff just does not get done around here like I would like. But, I'll live.

Sweet relish you say??? Hmmmm...I LOVE relish!! Can I have the recipe please and directions for how you can it, please??

I guess 10 pounds of potatoes is just right for French fries. :p

For the relish I just used the recipie out of my Ball book. Cucumbers, red bell, green bell, onions, sugar, vinegar and spices. Its pretty basic.

I am going to do dill relish and zucchini relish next.

I can get you the full recipie in the morning if you like.

:barnie I had to call the Vet out because Amber has gone off of her feed. I had given her two different types of dewormer and a round of antibiotic and neither seemed to help. I called the Vet's office and they said $45 for a house call. $140 later :he I am now waiting for a call from the vet to be sure of the diagnosis and then I have to go pick up another STRONGER dewormer for all of my goats. He said he would give me enough to deworm them all again in the fall.

On a brighter note... I am getting a new goatie tomorrow!! I swear she looks just like the goat on the top left of this craigslist ad. it could even be her.

A friend of mine bought her and has now decided he wants a milk cow instead so he is selling her to me for $70!

Ugggg!!! I am sure the 45 bucks was just to get him to your house. Those Nubians are just beautiful. So now that you have all these great goats are you still wanting a cow?

I really do love my goaties! Haha...if you would have asked me like 3 years ago I probably would have told you that I don't even like goats!!
I still really want a cow but it is not practical where we live now. But, when the kids are older and we move to a bigger piece of property and the kids all have families then a cow will definitely be a must! I am excited for my friend to get a cow because I am sure I could talk him into sharing some of his milk with me so I can make butter!!!

UGH! An my friend told me this evening that I should expect a little bit of sticker shock tomorrow when I pick up the dewormer! :idunno

Yeah, $45 just for him to show up...but tell me did he think he was coming to VISIT WITH ME??? Another $40 or more just for an exam....sigh.... He was only here about 20 minutes.
