Super Self-Sufficient
well ive come to the conclusion people buy the strangest thigns when they thing bad weather is comming...
i mean french toas suppiles asside, i can understand buying milk and bread (the eggs confuse me though because it the power goes out how you planning on cooking them?!)
but then theres shere volume...
was in walmart this morning as i needed juice for my morning smoothie
all the batteries were gone
im not talking typical AA's and D's for flashlights and basic OS...im talking ALL the batteries..i think people freek out so badly they figure any batteries is better than no batteries, they were all out of AAA's and those little tiny watch batteries too! thats NEVER happens..even they were realy confused lol.
milk...now i understand milk...but 10 gallons of it?! yes some woman had 10 gallons of milk in her cart...
how long does she thing we'll be without power or flooded in to need 10 gallons of milk?!
and the milk is "just in case" at $4 a gallon...
there was no water left on the shelves and the milk lady was bragging to a woman with 2 babies (whod come in looking for water because thier well pump just broke and itll be tomorrow before anyone can fix it) that she bought all the water yesterday, over 100 gallons!
i HATE those people...ok folks stock up, but seriously, your the reason that poor woman with 2 young babies now has to go pay extra elsewhere for it IF she can find it, and your BRAGGING about it.
another woman had 12 loaves of bread in her cart at the check out...ok if the power goes out youll at least be able to make sandwhiches...but she had no MEAT, no Jelly, no peant butter, no butter, nothing to put ON the bread, just 12 loaves of bread... oh and about 10 bags of various candy...mabe shes having candy sandwhiches...
my favorite however was the couple buying the "fancy" dog food (the ones with chunks of meat and veggies in it) i overheard them talking and she tells them "noone buys dog food, and people can eat it...in an emergency we can SELL it for alot more"
cause aparently the world is actually ending on sunday and people are going to have to resort to eating dog food...*sigh* (id NEVER eat what they were buying, lol, no matter how desperate, and i taste all my dogs foods lol)
it doesnt make ANY sense to me...its just sillyness.
weve preped this way:
we got our popane bottles for the grill filled and picked up a couple of the small camp stove bottles for the coleman. this means if were without power we have a gas stove and the grill for cooking...
we bought our "normal" groceries (meat, veggies, canned soups and veggies ect) and simply set our selves up in such a way that we can actually cook things...
i have no plans to live on milk and bread for a week should problems occur thanks...
ive got to head out later and pick up a couple of gallons of water if mum cant get it from Big Y, just to have on hand, but i dont see the reason to go so ape about this whole thing...
get what you need, pick up enough extra if your not typically the "once a week" grocery shop type (we only grocery shop once a week so realy prepping for a weeks worth as a just in case is no different than out normal), but seriously, 100 gals of water, 10 gallons of milk and 12 loaves of bread...realy!? you having a party or something?
