I'm 5'9 and 140 and wear semi short (mid thigh) shorts, but if I were 5'9 and 240 I wouldn't, not just for me, but also taking everyone else's eyesight into consideration. I'm just sayin. Beyond the girls clothing showing too much, I think it is tasteless when grown folks show too much too. I have seen BIG women in those cutoffs some of you have described, and men with uber hairy beer guts the size of beached whales hanging over their speedos IN THE STORE :th My girls are scared for life from having seen those two very memorable(wish I could forget) folks who just show too much. Modesty is about respect for self and others IMO. I don't like seeing big wrinkled sundamaged breasts hanging out of a blouse either, or folks with serious serious toenail fungus wearing flip flops. Some things ARE inappropriate to flaunt no matter your age, size, religious background, etc. Call me biased or whatever, but some things people wear are just nasty. I won't even wear sandals if my toenails are a little too long, until I clip them and I DON'T wear anything to chirch or on buisness that shows my tattoos :hu Maybe I'm just a weirdo, but it's just GROSS and/or inappropriate!

I was given 3 skirts for my baby that I would never dream of putting on her.
Mini skirts is putting it mildly. I knew that stuff existed in the slightly older section, but infants now too?
Oh yes. That bothers me. If you want to sell your kids to prostitution, I think that's illegal. LOL. So why dress them as advertisements?

I have always been disturbed at bikinis for babies and toddlers and anyone not old enough to consentually put out.

Children should be dressed MUCH more modestly than they are. At least this time of year, there are leggings under the mini skirts on little kids, so it isn't quite as bad. I think the leggings and a short skirt is cute.

I'm not concerned that they are modest... I am safety concerned.

I'm 50, weigh between 125-130, depending on the time of month, and wear a size 4. Most people are shocked to find out how old I am. I have a better figure than most girls half my age. I could quite easily get away w/wearing all kinds of things that would show off my figure. But, I don't.

I stopped wearing dresses a few years ago. I do not know how to sew and don't have the time to learn. Almost everything that I could find in my size was not something that I was comfortable in-too revealing. I would not mind long, flowing skirts w/a nice blouse, but can't find any. I also wouldn't mind finding some nice sun dresses, but can't find any of them either.

When swimming, I wear either a one piece, or a tankini. The tankinis that I have are actually more modest than many 1 piece. I will NOT wear a bikini-except for in the privacy of my own home. Sorry, no guy other than my hubby needs to be ogling over my body.

I try as much as possible to be modest, and I've found that for me, at least, it's easier to be modest in jeans and a button down shirt than in most dresses. As has been already said, many of them look like what a hooker would wear, and I don't want to be confused for one. As much as possible, I avoid really tight jeans. They can be just a bit too revealing. Actually, I've gotten to where I don't really like anything too tight for just that reason.

The number of us here that care enough to listen to our hubby's opinion is pretty interesting. Then again many of us have been happily married for a long time.
I certainly understand a woman wanting to maintain control in a relationship, but without mutual trust what is a relationship?

Letting hubby be "in charge" was a tough one for me. I was raised by a mother who domineered her spouse and tried her best to teach me the same. With a lot of work I am finally getting there however. :) With a good Christian man who loves me "as Christ loved the church" I find the more control I give him the happier I am and more harmony that exists in our home. We definitely have a marriage of love and respect for each others wishes, which is part of the reason we will be celebrating our 30th anniversary this month.

I wear my hair long to please my hubby, but if I went to plain dress or wardrobe of all overalls tomorrow he would be fine with my choices as well. He has always given me a lot of freedom of expression.

As a side note here, my hubby was raised in a Plymouth Brothern Church and we were married in that church as well. In that church all women worn head coverings during services and prayers. I really preferred it to our current Baptist practices. Much more reverent.
Hey! I grew up PB too :)
I too grew up PB...my father is a fire and brimstone preacher :D Now that was HARD! LOL!

I'm thinking I can really get hubby to appreciate the modesty thing in me...if i wear something not so modest underneath :p. He won't care WHAT I wear if he knows there is a surprise under there for later LOL!

Once when DH and I were at a July 4 celebration, He looked up from our blanket and shreiked 'I'm blind!' there were two VERY hefty young females wearing string bikinis! At least I think they were. :/ Couldn't see the bottoms at all. Come to think of it, that was the last july 4 celebration we attended!

Personally, being of generous proportions myself, I would think I had more repect for myself than that!

I spend alot of time on the water, we are big boaters. I usually have a tanktini on when hubby and I are alone, but when with others or on a public beach I always have a dress of some kind over it...not a long dress, but about halfway to my knee anyway. We have Christian freinds we hang out with alot who wear bikinis all the time and for years have teased me about taking the dress off! I was raised to be very discreet in dress, and although there were a few years in there that I rebelled and it showed in the way i dressed as well, I am still much more comfortable with modesty than I EVER will be in a bikini

While I don't wear a dress over my bathing suit, it's not unusual for me to wear a pair of nylon shorts over my suit. They don't make the legs long enough on the suits.

A lot of people are under the impression that if you don't want to show off your body, you're not comfortable w/it. I disagree. I have no problems w/my body, but it's MY body, and not something that I want to share w/others.

Actually, I like the skirt and blouse in Tank's avatar. (I think it's in hers.)

Try looking at Title Nine - they have comfortable sundresses that you can move in and aren't sleazy.

LOVE the pictured outfit too. But it's probably all wrong for me. I think I'm too short for such a full skirt, and while I definitely have a waist and love wide belts -- something tells me that one wouldn't work. I was the person who always admired an outfit tremendously -- until I tried it on. Most of what appeals to me does NOT flatter me. Maybe because of my height (or lack of!). Which is why I've never sewn anything for myself unless I was copying something I already owned.

And I'll agree x 100 about dressing little girls. When my daughter was younger, I was shocked to find almost all the clothes from 6-yo size and up were designed to show off a figure that wasn't there yet -- but never mind that, some of those clothes would make it look like it was! I was stuck with shopping at one or two expensive places in the mall or else thrift stores looking for clothes made before that change took place. I find it disgusting to dress little girls like hoochie-mamas. But sometimes it's hard to find anything else.

And when I was teenager-ish and much more concerned with looking GOOD than being modest -- I still chose high leg cut one piece bathing suits. They weren't exactly modest, but left some things to the imagination. And I had some fairly short full circle skirts too, and had a top that I like that was a tube top with a loose attached overshirt made of partially see-through lace. But I think I would have rather died than be seen in a thong or string bikini. I had a great body -- that wasn't the problem. Just some things I was NOT going to do. Besides, even if you wanted to attract attention, it seemed to me back then that it was better to HINT at your attributes, and inspire curiosity and interest, rather than just slap it all out there. No matter how attractive you are.
