That's wonderful news! Although I must admit to being a little jealous. Someday I hope to have news like yours. You can post pictures once you're moved, so we can see this 3 acre blessing!

Maybe the landlord would let you clean up the place INSTEAD of the deposit. Work is money, after all. And you know you'll clean it anyways! Can't hurt to ask! If he knows you, he knows you won't trash it when you leave, either. I can tell that from way over here, so he should be able to see that, up close. ;)
I am with Free....excellent idea!

Yes, we plan to talk with the landlord about that, because we had the same thought.

I'm telling you, this has been one long exhausting weekend, and it's still only Friday  I've been on this emotional rollercoaster since yesterday, and I feel like I've lived 2 lifetimes since then. Does that make sense?

I keep thinking today is Saturday, I'm sick about Monday, I've barely been able to eat anything, and I just want to CRY.

Finding the house with three acres today has been the best thing so far, and that made me want to cry, too!

Thank you, everyone, thank you.

Best part is, this house is not anywhere that the outlaws (inlaws) will think to look!

Free has some great ideas!

I wouldn't start cleaning until you sign the lease, though.....I got majorly screwed over on a deal like that!

My kids and I worked clearing brush, picking up junk, cutting weeds and grass, cleaning a house and hauled 6 wagon loads of trash to the dump.....2 months of solid work.....and the woman pulled out of the deal. We had already told our other landlord we were moving and they already made a deal to rent to someone else, so we had to move.

We were homeless for 3 weeks over that little deal.

Did another one the same way, cleaned for a couple of weeks.....it was horribly bad and filthy....they got mad because we took out of the house, to be thrown away, some of the nastiest junk you ever saw ....they expected us to live with it in the house! People are unbelievable! :rant

The first year we moved here we moved all our household goods six times....just trying to find somewhere decent and where we wouldn't get done dirty.

Never again!

Always, always get that lease and get every verbal deal in writing....you won't regret it! :)

Free had an excellent idea about working the deposit off.

Jesse,

I like your quote "I wouldn't have been here if I hadn't been there."

Great advice Bee.

Get it in WRITING! Even if you just write out on a piece of notebook paper the agreement and then you both sign date and time it, it is a legally binding contract.

I hate to say THIS part, but ESPECIALLY if you have been friends with the person before. Sad to say but sometimes family and friends can cause the MOST troubles. Writing the agreement down makes everything clear and will keep your friend, your friend.

You might even offer your services (for pay or money off of rent) later, after he sees the kind of work you do! Since he seems to have several rental places, it might work out into an occasional job for you all! (Get those agreements in writing as well!)
