No and sadly it looks like it might be a while before I can. I hope sometime this summer though. Oh well.

Hi Rebecca,

I don't get to this forum much. So much to read and so little time. But I can't sleep tonight so I am brousing and found your story.

I do want to tell you this. Even though things are hard right now, and you have been through so much you have your life ahead of you and you have your family and you are trying to raise your children in a natural way. You have years ahead of you tha will be good!
Remember to spend time with your kids teaching them all about the outdoors, raising food, etc. Soon they may loose interest. The time is now. Do not miss it. Do everything you can to make it fun for them, not work or chore, but exploration and achievement.

And also remember, as your husband tries to meet the demands of his job you being home will be a comfort to him, knowing the home base is well covered and you will be able to take care of things that he is too busy to do. You will be able to support him emotionally better.

I am 57 and just finally got my little peice of heaven in the country. I didn't get to raise my kids with chickens, goats, horses. I so wish I had. All I did was work work work. Do what you can when you can to meet your goals. There is always the garden. And nothing makes home feel more like home than the smell of fresh baked bread everyday.

I dont know why neighbors would complain about a milking goat. They are quiet and just one doesn't smell. Learn to make goats milk fudge and pass it around. Folks in my state are not allowed to sell raw milk so I am trading my neighbor for her milk. I get 8 quarts and she gets a massage. Its a good deal for both of us. She has other trades going on. I just can't believe how good her goats milk is. No taste or smell of a goat at all. If you can manage that that milk will fly out of your kitchen.

She also makes our favorite Laundry soap here and sells it to everyone. Just an idea...if you want to make pin money. She started selling it at local bazaars and christmas sales. $5 a gallon and costs a few cents to make and the kids can do that with you.

Good luck!

Thanks. My neighbor is just not an animal person and is determined everything is out to get her flowers. I actually have one goat now that I refused to get rid of. Unfortunately he is a buck and I will have to add on for room for a doe since I have to keep him either in a small pen or on a rope.

Well yesterday I ordered my greenhouse film and plants. I just can't wait to get seed started! And my Dh bought me a wood cook stove! it doesn't have a warmer though, but that is okay. It is in great shape. From the serial # we think it is a 1943 model and it looks like it has barely been used. AND my chickens have finally started laying again. Five of the seven hens started back this and last week. Incubator time!!

We put it in the shed for right now and it needs a little cleaning up, but I think it was a good find for $200. Wood cookstoves are hard to get around here. A lot of people use them and no one wants to sell them in our area. If they do sell them it is because they are burned out or unusable and then they still want an arm and leg for them.
