I believe my box is empty now. I feel loved my box got full. :love
I was worried my note was TMI, OFG.

Yea the orloffs ended up being problematic. They FLY. We are down one because a silly orloff decided to fly right into Bandit's mouth, which is what began that problem. She thought raw live chicken was real yummy. Now the remaining two have their left wings clipped down to a nubbin.

They lay small white eggs and have a tendency to be at the bottom of the chicken pecking order, so we had a feather loss problem for awhile. BUT, they are the two that had the successful brood for me last year and they grew back their feathers while in their broody trance. They suddenly were like the ugly duckling, turning beautiful. What a lovely thing motherhood is. They didn't take any crap from Charlie or the top hens when they returned to the big coop with their chicks either. These are the two I refer to as Pretty and Unpretty, my only truly named chickens except the roo and my one EE Flan. However their chicks are grown and I still have only gotten one or two eggs from them. In Russia, they eat them after they brood a clutch for them. However, these are lean, skinny birds and there couldn't be much meat on them. And I ........love Pretty and Unpretty and could not eat them. I've saved them too many times. Orloffs are shy but calm. I do like them and if they layed eggs for me, I was thinking about getting a roo from a BYC person locally. I might still.

Personally I think my EEs are much prettier, but they are just "mutt chickens" and not as much point in incubating them. Did I mention hubby is building me an incubator?

And heh, no dissing Subarus! They are the most awesome car known to man. I credit my first one with saving my life when I had my car accident. I walked away unhurt from a nasty side-swipe. Car was totalled but drove me home. Lately Hubby has left me his Jeep the gas hog and taken my car to work for the commute, which makes sense but I wanna say, NO FAIR, I picked the good car.

This is Pretty.

She got named that because Orloffs have these funky facial feathers, I don't really like them. They have very little comb and wattle, which was good for very cold climate like Russia. So their faces are a little ugly. Pretty is lacking the typical facial feathers and is not a good example of an orloff, but I found her to be the pretty one, so her name developed.
When there was only one other orloff left, who has the facial feathers, pretty soon she just wasn't Pretty, she was Unpretty. But actually Unpretty looks more like an orloff should. I don't have a good picture of her. This is the actual shot I used to have BYC identify her for me along with a couple others, she was a pullet here but doesn't really look much different. They are slender and kind of upright.
This was before her first molt and the neked time she endured.

I think she's pretty :) Love your land, so much variety. Mine is flat, flat, and flatter :D With a small area smack in the middle that has a dip and floods easily :p

The house sits on the only flat part. In the picture with the goats, that is looking down a steep hill, you just can't really tell in that photo.

My goats are much hairier right now! and fatter. They were finishing growing still in that picture.

Also, Molly, the one that is smaller and I wasn't sure was pregnant, I can notice some changes in her udder, it seems bigger. So I'm a little more optimistic about that today. The other one, Ginger, is my extra-teated doe, so we are not as hopeful for her offspring, and she seems to be hugely and obviously pregnant, I suspect more than one, the way she looks so much more pregnant than Molly.

Up early because of hubby....yea, he wishes I was up, making him breakfast and coffee and giving him a good morning kiss good bye, music playing in the background......

No actually, I have irritable bowel syndrome and I'm up every morning. Did I mention I have that, too? Compared to my other med issues, it is nothing. But I'm usually up every morning because of stomach aches. It was horrible when I was working. It seems to "go" with MD and a lot of us chronic ones have it too.

Sigh. So glad to be off.

Sigh. So glad to be off.

I'd do that a third time but you guys already got the point. Our budget is already getting strained but I'm still so happy not to be driving down the hill this AM.

We have freezing rain! Hubby has not even woken up yet, this was predicted so his work does not expect him today, or at least not while the conditions are like this.

Did I mention he misplaced the key to our jeep...somewhere in the house? We thought it would show up, but it has been gone awhile now. I've been slowly cleaning and organizing thinking it would show up. Hubby is disorganized but this is probably his most glaring example to date. He would be SO red in the face if he knew I was sharing this with anyone! But he only had one key!
So hopefully he can spend some time helping me look for it today!

I realize I don't think my rabbit cages will open this morning with the freezing rain.

Good thing I gave them lots of food yesterday. I think I can warm up the water through the cage bars. We made these cages but were not thinking about freezing rain.

Our chicken coop also does not open, but they can still get out the pop door.

Our back door is a ramp I'll have to slide down it this AM to go collect eggs. Should be interesting! Temp is 34 now though so hopefully it will melt off this layer of ice off everything.
