I believe my box is empty now. I feel loved my box got full.
I was worried my note was TMI, OFG.
Yea the orloffs ended up being problematic. They FLY. We are down one because a silly orloff decided to fly right into Bandit's mouth, which is what began that problem. She thought raw live chicken was real yummy. Now the remaining two have their left wings clipped down to a nubbin.
They lay small white eggs and have a tendency to be at the bottom of the chicken pecking order, so we had a feather loss problem for awhile. BUT, they are the two that had the successful brood for me last year and they grew back their feathers while in their broody trance. They suddenly were like the ugly duckling, turning beautiful. What a lovely thing motherhood is. They didn't take any crap from Charlie or the top hens when they returned to the big coop with their chicks either. These are the two I refer to as Pretty and Unpretty, my only truly named chickens except the roo and my one EE Flan. However their chicks are grown and I still have only gotten one or two eggs from them. In Russia, they eat them after they brood a clutch for them. However, these are lean, skinny birds and there couldn't be much meat on them. And I ........love Pretty and Unpretty and could not eat them. I've saved them too many times. Orloffs are shy but calm. I do like them and if they layed eggs for me, I was thinking about getting a roo from a BYC person locally. I might still.
Personally I think my EEs are much prettier, but they are just "mutt chickens" and not as much point in incubating them. Did I mention hubby is building me an incubator?
And heh, no dissing Subarus! They are the most awesome car known to man. I credit my first one with saving my life when I had my car accident. I walked away unhurt from a nasty side-swipe. Car was totalled but drove me home. Lately Hubby has left me his Jeep the gas hog and taken my car to work for the commute, which makes sense but I wanna say, NO FAIR, I picked the good car.
