My goats think the rain and snow is my fault too. And they can see right into the house - and they have figured out every vantage point from which to see me the best. When I'm at the sink doing dishes, they go to the back of the yard. When they can't tell exactly where I am, they stand on the stump and point towards the door. I tell myself it's because they love me

Mine seem to be able to find me no matter what window I appear at, as well. I can't usually hear anything, but I see their mouths open and close with a ....demanding expression...so I know they are yelling for me to bring them treats.

I FOUND A JEEP KEY!

Yay! :weee

Actually this was an old key that we lost a couple years ago, but it works! There is another jeep key lost here as well, but heck.....I spent the morning reorganizing the closet (between vertigo spells). Obviously Dizzy Dog Ranch needed straightening up!

So I made it down to the mailbox, having a car to get there (it is over a mile from here) and lo and behold, the good fairies have been thinking of me.....actually the good fairy in this case is our own Framing Fowl, who sent me a lovely care package of seeds, all sorts of them, to start my garden in the spring! She can't put in a garden this year and heard me whining about where was I going to get money for seeds? and there you go. I have them now. There is enough here to fill the area I planned to plant and there are flower seeds too.

How did she know cosmos are my favorite annual?

I feel so cared for and loved! :love
Thank you~Thank you~Thank you!

Yes, I promise to take pictures.

 After reading the first sentence, I was going to die laughing. I thought: NO WAY! Her jeep key was not in the freezer!

Glad you got the care package! Watch out on those sunflowers though. They got 8 or 9 feet tall on me and I had to cut them down with a chainsaw!

No, but I looked there.....we WERE coming home from the grocery store when it happened so it was a great hint.

No, this key was in a box I had tucked away from when we moved here but I sure am glad to find it. Now we need to have a copy made asap! Silly having just one.......

And if the sunflowers get that tall, that would be awesome! I have the rabbits and was reading they enjoy the stalk, sounds like there would be plenty of that.

Thanks again!

Feeling mighty thankful.....not only did we get the seeds from Framing Fowl, but we recieved a six month supply of dog food yesterday. It was a "donation" to our rescue cause from an old friend. It is extremely high quality food....so high in protein I will have to blend it so my dogs don't get sick, but that will be easy enough to remedy.

This person needed the space this food was taking up and thought of us. We are so thankful.

The funny thing is, the dogs UNDERSTOOD what we were bringing in last night. It must smell good. They were standing by their bowls and Bandit was saying Whooooo whooooo whooooo! like she was very happy and excited. The more bags they brought in, the happier the dogs were.

I swear they must read the side of the bag and see that it says 70 percent meat!

We did not quite know how we were going to manage to feed everyone for the next few months while things are tight, it looks like there will be no problem saving dogs.

See why I'm sure this is God's plan for me?

The Story of Toby

Toby was a purebred chocolate lab, who was once a gorgeous dog. He was the ugliest dog I have ever fostered however. When I first saw him he was literally naked. I don't have a before picture of him. He suffered from severe allergies and his prior owners were unable to treat him. He was turned over to a clinic I worked for.

I cared for Toby for several months at work first. He was a bouncy, hard-headed guy. He had been trained but we did not care of him much. He was getting a full regimen of pills and regular baths. I felt sorry for him, felt he needed more exercise and stimulation than living at a clinic. When a foster home was needed, I raised my hand.

Toby was a pain at first. He had been a hunting dog and not used to indoor life. Tore through my kennel, broke out of a crate and took a long time settling into our routine. But when he did, he really was perfect. Very smart dog, just stubborn. He gradually over the course of several months grew back much, but not all, of his hair. We advertised him on the web and he had several meet and greets, but no one really wanted to take him on. His ongoing diet and treatments were expensive, he was not that young, and frankly, he never regained his full beauty and had homely "lick granulomas" on his legs.

Toby loved me. He worshiped me actually. He knew I saved him from having to live in the kennel. He LOVED exercise and became a great dog once he had enough. He, more than any dog, taught me that what most dogs need if they are a problem dog is just plenty of exercise.

Time and adoption events went by and no one adopted Toby. We became attached. I even enjoyed giving him his silly baths. He adored water! He was a very good dog, and he reminded me very much of a prior very good dog I once owned. In any event, a home finally stepped forward.
They had another highly allergic, stinky, partly bald dog. It was a female just Toby's age and breed. They wanted to meet him!

I had almost become resigned that Toby would never leave, and was a bit surprised that I had to say goodbye. I found myself shocked that of all the beauties I fostered, I was having such regrets about giving away the one that I once thought was the ugliest dog I ever saw. Beauty is more than skin deep, even in dogs.
But he ended up with a happy home after all.
