 OFG! Naughty Farm Girl! Biscuit tripped me on the cellar stairs and I decide that he is not a cockerpoo....his pushed in schnozz indicates ****zu to me....you do the math. :D

Dorian is up and about today, that is all I needed to know. I will spend some quality time with him in a little bit.

Glad to hear your little guy is doing better. :clap

Now please fill me in on the microscopes and fecal exams. Well, not all of it but some. :D Is this something every goat owner needs to do? I don't know the first thing about microscopes. Is this a self taught skill or are you a science geek as well?

Sure seems to have come in handy either way.

I read up on it on the Fiasco Farm site. I used to work at a veterinary clinic so I've done them on cats and dogs and it's really kind of cool in that nerdy way! (Ooo, there's one I can add to my list on the nerd thread!) I got an inexpensive-ish children's microscope that DS can also use to check stuff out.

Glad to hear Dorian is in high spirits!

Go Dorian!!!!

Ok so that's one more thing I will put on my mental list. "keep eyes open for used microscope at Good Will" I have seen them before but never thought I would need it.

I was yacking with a friend yesterday and talking about getting milking goats again!! My favorite subject. :D I said I would get a doe and a weather. SIL suggested I get two does and just freshen at different intervals. What do you think about that? Pros and cons to having two does??

Just dreaming up a plan but never to early to start, right?

That's pretty much what Free suggested for me. I do have the two does, one in milk, one still a baby. But I got the wether too, because he was going to go to freezer camp if I didn't take him with his sister and I just a sucker that way! He is sweet, but he does eat a lot of hay and isn't as smart as the does. He's a pet. Sigh. But we love him!

i have 3 gals in milk - all freshened at different times. no wethers.. honestly i dont see the need.. why not have all productive animals?? as we say here "everybody works" - so a wether would just be biding his time until the grill was hot.

my original goal was to milk year round... but have to say.. milking on a lovely spring/summer day is heaven. in a parka when its colder than all you-know-what and its dark b/c the sun wont come up for another hour.... not fun. at all. we figure it gives them/us a break.

great work, Free, in gettg him in shape! i think Vita needs to be wormed again :-( but since i'm milking her for the pigs - two for one!

I plan on taping Ginger's teats again tomorrow, since I will be home all day (YAY!!!) so I can somewhat monitor her. I tried white bandaging tape and it fell off as I was putting a third piece on the first teat! Aaarrgh! So I will go back to using a couple of bandaids, which stayed on almost all day last time. I will try to re-tape her mid-day
so since you are going to be a lady of leisure tomorrow (slacker! ha!) will you post 'how to's' for doing this taping bit? i need to get Ginger off Debbie and dont want to keep putting her in the stall at mid afternoon.

when i told my hubby about the taping thing he just looked at me and said it sounded uncomfortable...and walked away rubbing his... um.. that is.. chest area.

so now i'm squeamish too.

taping? really?

:)
