I'm enjoying John. I just don't think we have spent much time discussing it. Perhaps because it talks about such basic things, it isn't controversial or complicated.
I find it more hopeful and uplifting however.

Re: 3:16, I was reading that some consider it the whole crux of the new testament all wrapped up in one sentence. Kind of like the Bible in a nutshell. I kind of like that idea. I don't mean to cut the Bible down into soundbites, but sometimes you have to do things to grab people's attention and then fill them in with the details later.

I don't know if it is my favorite, but I think it is the verse you see written down and quoted more than any other from the Bible except perhaps the first parts of Genesis.

Do you all agree it is one of the most quoted?

I do believe John 3:16 is probably the most well-known and often quoted.

I think we've had confusion about what chapter we've been on? I did like it in the thread title too, at least when we begin a new chapter.

If 1John has slowed us down because it's too basic well ... IMO Hebrews or Romans would be the opposite. I think they are two of the most difficult books to study. That could be a good thing then? Sometimes Paul's logical treatises leave me reeling, LOL.

I would suggest something a little more challenging but short, so it would be easy to judge if we're moving in the right direction without committing many weeks. James? One of Peter's epistles? But I'm along for it whatever is decided. :) Maybe Ephesians? I always found that book to be very profound, but never did it in a group study so I'm not sure how that would go. I wouldn't mind one of the gospels either. They are much longer, but I always enjoy other's insights about the life and ministry of Christ. :)

I have too many favorite verses to list. :)

Love one another as I have loved you. No weapon formed against you shall prosper. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. My sheep hear my voice. The whole vine and branches section of John, and about half the Psalms. And many more. :) Different verses speak to me at different times in my life.

I love those verses because I constantly remind myself that my life is in Gods hands. I mean that in a way, going back to Jeremiah 29:11, that he has a plan for me and he will show me.

I fought very hard with what to do with my life, and he kept showing me what I needed to do, but I ignored it. Then it hit me one day that I was put on this earth to farm. Not just farming, but pastured, "organic", cruelty free. My passion has always been animals, why wouldn't his plan be for me to continue that? I dunno, that's just one example :p

MsPony all kinds of versions of the Bible can be found right there on your Internet these days. I've "googled" different versions in order to understand some of the nuances you all have discussed regarding interpretation because I only have two versions here. I have a Kindle I read a newer translated version on, but I also read the KJV online.
