Thanks for the kind words everyone.

Peddler that pic of the potatoes is actually about two weeks off. I have already added the mulch like we talked about and filed in around the outer edge with more straw. I did not know growing carrots was such a science. You know me, I just throw the seed in and see what happens. gotta love that Scientific Method. :D

Very nice garden!! This is my first year to grow potatoes so thanks for the visual. I just put down the first layer over most of the leaves.

Loquats yum!!! They taste like plums to me and they carry the most beautiful seeds! In Houston loquat trees planted themselves everywhere! I often thought about making a necklace out of those seeds. But now it is too late I moved.

big brown this is my first try with the wire round on the potatoes. I saw some pics around here and some others are doing the same thing. This works well I think because it takes up less space and is supposed to yield a ton.

Oh, do you want me to mail you some loquat seeds??? :D

Here you go

about carrot tops

The greens are edible as a leaf vegetable, but are rarely eaten by humans, as they are mildly toxic.[2] Together

Thanks FC. I think I will just give them to the critters.

Last night I conquered the pressure canner. Yeah!! :weee I did a practice run with just water yesterday afternoon. Then I picked a bunch of carrots and gave it a try. I imagine they turned out ok. Next time I will definitely try to have enough to fill the canner. It holds up to 20 pints if you double stack them. Wow, now that would be a ton of carrots.

Not much but a start!!

I went to a Emergency Preparedness fair on Sat. It was at the local LDS church. I mainly went to see what was in the kitchen section. I was very happy to see I had almost all the things they suggested.

Emergency Food
Stored water
Sprouting seeds
Home made Laundry soap
oh and a couple other things. Funny thing was Sunday night we had a earth quake. It was up near LA and was a 4.7 on the Richter Scale. Not to big but a reminder why here in Ca. we Prepair.

It was nice to have a chance to talk to someone about the soap. I actually found out where to get washing soda in my area. So I came home and made a new batch. Last time I used Zote this time I went with the Fels Naptha. For some reason it went much easier than my original batch. Smelled better too. I think I will stick with the Fels.

Funny thing happened yesterday when I was watering my veggies. My dh came out and asked how "his " garden was growing. I think I am converting him. :clap He He He!!!!

I have a new idea for my white picket fence around my yard. It really just decorative and I thought it would be better if I could use it as a veggie trellis. Its kinda falling apart and I was thinking of replacing it with a field fence nailed to wood poles. Then I realized I didn't need new poles I could nail the wire directly to the existing fence post. Another project for the list.

Well thats about it for me. Got to get the rugrats off to school. Have a great day. G

Thanks for the support!!!

I buy Fels at my local Grocery Store, The Borax came from Wal Mart and the Washing soda was from a different grocery store. The recipe is all over this site.

Basically you use like a gallon of water on stove, grate Fels and melt into water, then add washing soda and borax. I then dump mix into 5 gal bucket and add more water. Then you let it sit over night and your good to go. It gels up which some people like and some don't. Has something to do with how much you stir. Depending on which recipe you use, will determine how much borax and washing soda you add. But it's only 1 to 1 1/2 cups. Not much at all.

Seems to work pretty good.
