We built a raised garden box, because our soil is heavy, dark clay and acidic (at least, I think it's azaleas that thrive in acidic soil). We're planning on removing said azaleas, and putting another raised box in there for root crops and so on. Winter stuff.

I have been raising green garlic in rich earth made from compost. They loved it, and I just harvested them the other day and planted another batch. If you have a large container, that would do fine, and you can grow different sizes of onion by how closely you plant them together. Make sure they get plenty of sun though, and I don't think it'd be necessary to put a water dish under the container.

ah!!! i'm running out of space and i just found more "must have" seeds! need to change my plan again!!! and dad says i can't plan the whole garden... only half... HALF!!! and i'm running out of room planning the whole thing! :th
i'll get my way in the end... i know dad won't be out in the garden every day... we both know it... and you get more produce for the space my way... i'll get him to use my plan...
... gee, dad, i don't know what happened to your garden drawing :idunno :hu
just kidding. i'm not mean to him... unless he deserves it.

so i should probably wait to tell him about the berry patch plan...

oh, i'm making a list of all the things i'm growing. so y'all can see just how deep i'm diving in... ya, like "ten-thousand leagues under the sea" deep... :th

it might take a little bit...

Ohiogoatgirl, why not just make your sections smaller?

I plan on having very small sections for some of the veggies and to plant more in a few weeks. In prior years, everything ripened all on the same day practically. I'd like to eat a lot of it fresh so I don't want 20 zucs all in one day.

smaller... hmm... i don't know if i can go smaller...
i get what you mean about twenty zucchini in one day. i'm doing everything in staggered plantings.

i think if i can design a pretty herb garden and can find a permanent spot for them then that will give me a whole row. and i think dad will go for it becuase where it will have to go is a pain to mow so cutting down mowing space there is a plus.

can't wait!

nice list! I don't even know a lot of those herbs.

I say we start the competition today because I picked 40 lbs of oranges and there are still plenty on the tree.

ha ha ha!
lots of herbs are commonly known as weeds. mullien is known as "toilet paper plant" or "hobo's toilet paper" becuase it's fuzzy leaves. but its got medicinal qualities that most people don't bother to look up. and plantain is a weed here. its everywhere! i don't even need to grow it! i only have to pick the wild plants and move them to the area i want them. mullien is everywhere in fields and roadsides. i just picked my seeds in december from a hay field.

thats sounds like a good orange tree! you have any tips for a lime tree thats less then a foot tall? i've got it on a big pot and i'm going to plant it in my little greenhouse once i get it up. do i need to fertilize it or anything? i cant find anything on how to care for it...
thanks!

i wish it was feb. 1 so i could put up my greenhouse!!! everyone please pray we don't get any major storms becuase i dont know how much that little thing can take! :hide i'm gonna probly add wood supports inside...
