I'm not so sure that would be flexible enough to wrap a sandwich in, though. Have you ever seen an oil painting? Mainly linseed oil on cotton canvas. If taken from the frame and folded, it will crack. This may work better with few....or one....coating of linseed oil. Just a guess. And be sure to get food-grade. It is not always sold in a safe formula.

Boiled linseed oil is toxic, Don't use it on anything that has to do with food.. Cold pressed flax maybe? That might be expensive too.

You also have the issue of oily rags = fire hazard. That is why I liked the beeswaxed cotton idea.

Actually, the how-to article just specified linseed oil, not boiled linseed oil (though it also didn't say anythng about not using one over the other). Boiled linseed oil is used for furniture finishes, and takes ages to dry. Plain oil would dry faster, I think, and once dry sholdn't pose a health risk. Food grade oil might seem like a better idea, but it goes bad so quickly when exposed to air and light it probably would be no different from any other non-boiled linseed oil you could get. (Though it might be a way to use up the flax oil you bought some while ago, and forgot in the back of the 'fridge ... oh, that wasn't you? Well, it must have been me then ;)

Sally, do you use a dishwasher?

I think that would be a no-no... right? The entire inside is made of plastic it seems.

Remember the cloth bags for tea brewing- what about putting a sandwich in the big version of those. They are drawstring and wash easy.

I still want a dishwasher. Might not always use it , but I would love to have the option.
