Twister can swim circles around anyone....literally! Hee hee hee.

Her and Parcheesi are starting to go through their voice change right now too. So as they were swimming you heard "Peep peep peep HONK Peep peep SNORT Peep peep GRUNT HONK Peep peep peep..." I nearly died from the ridiculousness and the cuteness overload. And guess what? I heard that same sound coming from Lexi's pen where she and her 4 "boys" are living. At least one, and possibly two are girls. I suspected, I hoped, but now I heard proof. Weeee!!!!. The bills, legs and feet on two are getting really dark. If they conform to Welsh Harlequin coloring, those will be girls. YEAH!!! Fewer boys to pay someone to process.

Making duck egg quiche in muffin tins right now as I wait for it to cool off. I nearly sweat to death just taking a bag of feed to the pen and filling everyone's feeders. The ducks are panting like puppies even though over half of their run is in complete shade. It is just stinkin hot out there! I am also freezing quail eggs (cracked in to mini muffin tins) and I will put those in the deep freeze for December when everyone tends to go on strike. I didn't want to turn on the oven, but the eggs are piling up and if I don't make something easy to reheat to take to work, I end up having to grab a slim jim at 7-11. NOT exactly a nutritious choice even if it is low carb :p

So the first batch of quiche contains sweet potato leaves, lambs quarter leaves, and purslane with mushrooms, caramelized onions, and pepper jack cheese. The next batch will be pork sausage, shredded zucchini and sharp cheddar. If I can wrap those up and freeze them before hubby comes home, I will have lunches for weeks. If hubby finds out...yikes! Maybe I can distract him with the pot of chicken soup I have in the slow cooker or the black beans I am going to make in to freemotions dip recipe...

OFG...Tell Kai I will pass on the good news about the Tiara :D

I got a good start on the new duck pen entrance yesterday. Should have it done today. I doubt it will be fashionable, but it will be sturdy. I don't need anymore hits to the head :p

Had quiche for breakfast and some leftover steak. Mmmmmmmm

I am also going to try and plant some fall crops in the various gardening beds. Some need a soap treatment to knock out the evil bugs that keep eating the seedlings as they emerge. Others need more dirt. Either way I really hate to see them all empty. There should be food growing there darnit!!

In other gardening news, tomatoes are starting to ripen and I am going to try making nasturtium capers. The nasturtiums are flowering like mad so there should be plenty of pods for me to steal.

Let's see....

My car is still cranky, but it runs. I think we need to clean the Mass Air Flow Sensor. Apparently that is the cause of many issues in 1994 Exploders :D

My 2 pumpkin plants are totally taking over my back yard. The leaves are 3-4' across. I will post photos later. It's INSANE! At least I have seen a few pumpkins on the vines. I wonder how long I will be able to access the duck pen!

Twister is still with us :D I put her and Parcheesi with their other clutch mates. Lexi decided motherhood was a pain and she escaped the pen leaving her kids behind so now all the kids are together and mom is back with the flock. I was worried the other ducklings would pick on Twister, but she is fearless. One of the boys pecked at her and she kicked his ass! LOL

My bike is FINALLY together, but I still haven't had time to take it for a ride. Work has been busy plus we are getting LOTS of rain. The rain is good, but the duck pen is now "poop soup". Ewww! I guess some day I will need to cover the whole duck run. This is NASTY!

The garden is looking great. Getting a few maters every day. Even found a few beans. it will be a while before I have cukes and melons. Stupid bugs ate my first three plantings. The sweat potato vines are getting huge. The regular taters... meh. One is great, one looks droopy and one is dead. I think I will dig up the droopy plant and see what's going on.

The 5 remaining quail are still in their pen. I think I finally have all the weak spots shored up. The falcons seem sad :p

My oldest, Calvin is home on leave. Going to try and plan something fun to do. Maybe camping. Woot!

Try using ceder bark mulch, the big barky stuff, in that goo run. It stops all of the ooze and gush and smells better. I don't mind using the ceder as long as it is outside. ;)

Goodwill...

Found a Brevete food mill for $1.99 :D You can't even tell it had been used. It does have a plastic body, but it is really heavy weight and solid so it should still last a good while. I tested it on a batch of bean dip. It was lumpier than I liked. Now it is nice and smooth.

I also found some canning jars for 59 each. Not a TERRIFIC price, but still, more jars is a good thing!

I always look for good kitchen toys at garage sales too. I will see if I can find you one. I got a mandoline slicer last week at a garage sale for $5 :D
