Cleaned tonka's ear up again this afternoon, it's draining and smells foul. Chad's gonna go by the vet and get more antibiotics tomorrow. We also have to get one of the truck tires plugged, we found a slow leak in it today when washing the vehicles.
Went to have Thanksgiving dinner with Nanny's caregivers today. We had a nice afternoon, the kids ran us ragged! Then we went scouting around the county looking for geese.
Got a loaf of bread cooling on the counter and man, does it smell good! I also got all the chicken in the freezer today so that is done. I get to start the first batch of jerky tomorrow. I don't even want to think how much it's gonna make my dogs (or me either) drool all day!
Chad wants me to put together gift baskets for his landowners that he leases land from for xmas. I think I'm gonna do one small loaf of cranberry orange bread, banana nut bread, ginger cookies, coconut macaroons, cheddar pennies and a pint jar of dry soup mix. That should be pretty good, I have some leftover christmas fabric that I can use to wrap everything up pretty. I'll probably try to do those this weekend so he can get them delivered.
I keep thinking about all the projects that we have planned for next year and I am trying not to get overwhelmed. We are thinking of getting an estimate for a garage with a room over it and seeing if we can swing it. I love this house but we just don't have anywhere to put anyone when they come visit. It would give us some more storage space and a dry place to put all the feed for the animals. If we could find another piece of property that had fencing and a decent barn in our price range then we may consider it. If this house was on a basement I would be set.
I still need to plan out the goat house and now that we have had the situation with the dogs we are thinking of reworking the kennel and moving some things around outside. We also want to add a bigger chicken coop cause our light brahmas are BIG! I added some rabbit pellets to the garden and tilled it up a little with the pitchfork and it is full of big fat juicy earthworms!!! I still need to mulch it with some straw and turn over the compost pile. I'm excited to get seed catalogs this year.....I am in so much trouble!!!
Sorry to hear about your dogs ear. I keep thinking a second dog would be a good thing. Keep my pup busy and he would be happy to have a friend. But then there is the extra cost and issues such as this that make me reconsider.
Your spring planning sounds a bit like me. Except my sons 10th b day is in August and I want to have a party. I am making a master list of house projects to accomplish before then. Oh, then there will be all the normal garden stuff as well. I hope I can get it all done.
My dh just rolled his eyes at me today when I started listing things.
Your gift baskets sound great. All kinds of goodies that should make the landowners happy.
My sister just got her garage/shop project finished last year. It was a lot of fretting and expense but SO nice now. I am sure you would love yours.
That is yet ANOTHER reason why we need to move. Our little one car half of a two car garage provides almost NO storage. We have a basement but it can be damp and there is only so much you can stuff in a basement after all!
Your gift baskets sound delicious! Now ... how do I get on that list?
I don't mind doing extra! I'll just get everybody's addresses and do a mass mailing and really screw up our one room post office! Seriously, it is small.
My daughter just brought me a dead ladybug and said "don't touch it mommy, it's dangerous!"
My son is bug and frog obsessed so he is bringing me all of his creepy crawlies and explaining what they are dangerous and what they are and making up names for all of them. Too cute!
Doing jerky today and playing on the computer. Thinking about looking up some bug videos for Tyler. We watched a program on National Geographic this morning about crocodiles. It was pretty interesting, the kids really liked seeing the mama carrying her babies in her mouth.
Chad put in a call to the vet this morning and is waiting for them to call back to see if they want to see tonka about his ear. It looks alright this morning but is swollen and puffy. He is hanging his head to one side, you can tell it is hurting him but his sure is glad to be in the house.
I found some fresh blood in the rabbit hutch this morning but can't tell where or who it is from. Everyone looked okay. I'll check on them again later and see if I can find out what's wrong now.
I posted an entry in the hunting and fishing section this morning, Chad's guide service now has a promo video on youtube. Here is the address if anyone wants to take a look, Chad is the one in the black hoodie with Talk the Talk on the back. He doesn't shoot, he just calls the birds in and makes sure everyone is happy. I'm proud of him!
Your gift baskets sound wonderful. I need to get started on mine this year. I have all these ideas in my head and now I just need to put them in motion.
I hope your dog gets better. It hurts me terribly to see an animal in pain. Have you asked your vet about giving him something for the inflamation? Maybe an aspirin or something safe . . .
I hadn't thought of that, I may get my hubby to ask when he stops by there today for the antibiotics. Last time this happened his neck swelled up the size of a basketball and he had to have iv antibiotics but he had been hurt for 2 days when we got home from an out of town visit and no one bothered to call and tell us he was hurt. He couldn't even walk the last time. I was able to get him on antibiotics pretty soon after this time and it is not near as bad. Charlie is fine, he's just ticked off that he's in the kennel alone.
Finishing up the jerky, it's just about ready to come out of the oven. Chad called me this morning and the guys at work want me to make jerky for them. Like I don't have enough to do already....
He told them $30 for 2 hindquarters. I just have to get the seasoning mixes that Jay was kind enough to send me for the jerky. Gotta call them later today when I get a definite number from Chad.
Vet is going to see Tonka on the 8th but sent Chad home with antibiotics and said he could have 1/2 a baby aspirin for the inflammation. He seems to be doing better today. We cleaned it last night and the swelling seems to be subsiding a bit. He is eating and drinking well and really likes being in the house
Going to dinner at my BF's house tonight. Gonna help her get her decorations down from the attic while the kids play. Here hubby just got his MRI results back and has torn something in his arm so no lifting for him. He's getting surgery for christmas!
Checked on the rabbits again this morning and they all seem fine, can't find out where the blood came from, one of them may have cut a foot or something. I dunno, I'll keep an eye on them.
I am thinking I'll go shopping for all the supplies for the baskets and a few other projects tomorrow. I may try to go after Chad gets home from work so that I don't have the kids underfoot.
He told me that he has like 50-60 2x4s at work that he has to bring home so there is the framing for the new chicken coop!!! We'll have to buy some heavier lumber for the floor but that should be fine for the walls/roof. I have 4 windows in the shed so that's done. We'll probably make our own door and I have some leftover shelving that we can make into nesting boxes.
