Ducks are waaaaaaaaaay easier than pigs!
Well, ducks are kinda like pigs with feathers.... :gig

Yeah, the quack gives them away.
ducks are little pigs in down jackets... but at least they wont chase you down and kill you.

there is nothing cuter than a baby duck.

:)

Egg-zactly!!!

WZ, I do have a couple with pink bills, but since I'm not sure if I have pure WH or not, I'm not sure how accurate that will be. The one with a pink bill that I picked up was quacking loudly, so I'm thinking it a girl.

Sadly, tho, I think my precious Pip, who was the first to hatch, is a boy. :hit Guess I'll have to keep him anyway. ;)

Are you ready for a ridiculous suggestion from someone who has NO idea what they are talking about? !

Here is the idea. People are constantly saying pigs are smarter than dogs right? Well I have seen many dogs trained to sit and stay until released to eat their dinner bowl.

How about a little obedience training for those young PIGS? !!!

I heard, but it don't know if it is true or not that you can tell a male from a female rouen by the stripes on it's face. One is supposed to be female and two stripes indicated male. Or I may have that backwards.... I don't have rouens anymore to test it.

The stripe thing is how you tell rouen's from mallards, not male from female.
2 stripes = a rouen.

Here is one I raised...

Some rouens have only one stripe. It will have part of another often, but only one full. Back a long time ago I raised rouens, but it has been years ago.

My first poultry sale for 2010 is tentatively set for tomorrow, weather permitting.

I'm selling 5 Bantams - 3 hens that have no roos, and 2 roos that have no hens.
I'm selling my Royal Palm Tom Turkey.
I'm also selling 4 pullets that are last summer's chicks.

Grand total of the sale? $80

I don't feel that's too bad for my first poultry sale of the season. I asked for what I felt were fair prices, and she didn't ask me to come down on any of them.

The lady coming is also a repeat customer from last year. She was my first real customer, and she had purchased some of those 300 RIR chicks I had last year.

If you're wondering my prices, I had put the bantams at $5 each. They are pet quality only, so I felt that was a fair price. The pullets are just starting full force into their first laying season, so I priced them at $10 each. And, I told her $15 for Lance. I sold turkey hens for $25 a piece last year, so I felt $15 for a tom was reasonable.

No haggling, no hassling, she was super polite and said, "That sounds good to me!" and said she'd like to pick up tomorrow, weather permitting.

That $80 is going to put a nice dent in my March feed bill. ;)
